I have been accused of being the smartest stupidest person or called geniustard by alot of people I know, thats because the normal differences between the way a person thinks for testing and assessment purposes is 3 to 4, a learning disability in college would be 9, mine was +20, I was a gifted child in that program at school, and instead of strengthening my weaknesses, I overcompensated for them, which is wrong, cause now I must learn new habits of mind to improve my success in other areas, I am an a student, got the highest scores on the intelligwence tests that the college counselor had ever seen ,including getting 100% on vocabulary, part of test, which was oral, not written or multiple choice, so if you are articulate and have initiative or can figure things out, people can easily miss your mental deficiencies and not realize that you are a special person who should really be riding on the short bus to school rather than sitting in class with the brainiacs, and then strangers like you have unrealistic expectations and judge us retards, instead of showing some compassion and understanding for someone with defective mental capabilities, which will become developed one day as soon as I get around to strengthening my weaknesses, it is so much easier to exploit my strengths

Been reading an interesting book on this topic lately.

Basically, when you get used to doing something, you begin to start doing it automatically, and you don't expect anything to be different, so when something different happens outside the norm, you don't notice the difference and then the error happens.

Much like how most car crashes are near the house, you know the area, you can pretty much drive it on autopilot, but when you are outside of your known area, you are watching everything and taking in all the information that you need to so you are safer.

Sometimes pilots are so focused on landing that they don't see the plane sitting on the runway, they are so focused on the landing that the plane on the runway is 'extra information' and discarded.

Another test they did to some people. put 10 people in a room in front of a tv, on the tv there are people playing basketball, passing the ball back and forth a lot, you tell the people to count the number of times the ball gets passed, in the middle of the tape, a man in a gorilla suit walks thru the scene, at the end, you ask them how many times the ball was passed, they can tell you, but ask them about the gorilla, and they never saw it.

Bad grammar but good question. As a self-proclaimed dumb smart person, I think it is because we only have a certain amount of attention and time we can use to learn things. If we are going to amount to anything, we have to focus on getting smart on some things and neglect other things. Everyone is smart in some areas and dumb in others. For example, I can debate psychological theories until the cows come home, but I recently found out that I forgot how to do long division by hand.

smart has many meanings - some people are academic geniuses but have no common sense whatsoever. some people might be able to build a computer from scratch, but can't put together a sentence. smart could mean visual, intellectual, intuitive, manipulative, or social skills that stand above the rest.....so yes, very intelligent people can make careless or stupid errors in an area that might not be their forte. nobody is perfect at everything....

as forrest gump said, stupid is as stupid does. same goes for what you would consider "smart" people. it is all at a superficial way of judging (ie, if they have a bachelor's, master's degree, or only graduated from h.s.). plus, we are not perfect; so anyone, no matter how smart we are, can commit some kind of mistake or error. depending on what is important to you, and your personality; are u prone to pay attention to detail? or do u see things in a big picture and therfore have no time for little details? also, there is book smart, and street smart. i know someone who is Pre Med, and he is the most irresponsible, messy, "dumb" person i know; he makes the same mistakes over and over again, and does stupid things (like leave a cup w/ soda in his car for 3 weeks, and then offers to drive, and then the soda of COURSE gets on the seat and on my skirt). and he did that to 5 OTHER PEOPLE. that is stupid error right? but he can concentrate on schooling for medical school? sometimes i think i would NEVER want him as my doctor. anyways, try not to judge cuz no one is perfect. it can be pretty exasperating sometimes!

I think that happens because they're "very smart". They think way too much about the questions or equation that they start to compicate it and make the stupidist errors. But then again, who thinks of the simple ways of answering a question..Very smart people? Yes, when they're not thinking too much. LOL

to prove that they are human, if smart people never made errors then they would be required to do all the stuff that not so smart people do, but since they do make errors they allow for other people to feel like the smart people aren't better than them, just smarter.

Because their training frames their thinking. Simply put, if the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem suddenly looks like a nail.

Karl Marx, being a student of Political Economy, thought that alienation was caused by the fact that workers do not own the means of productoin. Hundred years later, with the advent of child psychology, we suddenly realize that alientaion is caused by parental neglect between ages two and six...

Hey, 'very smart' people are also humans, and humans make mistakes, or errors, as you put it.

The most important thing is to learn from the errors, and as a result, you become smarter!

Because very smart people are human and all humans make mistakes. It's that simple. There is not a single person on this planet who knows everything about everything!
