Your best bet is to have it professionally done, especially the first time, so you can at least get a good idea of exactly how it's done effectively.

Here's some important things to remember:
-Both shaving and waxing can cause ingrown hairs.
-The hairs should be at least 1/4 of an inch long.
-DON'T use lotions, oils, or anything with fragrance on the area for about 24hrs or more. Those kinds of things are one of the biggest causes of ingrown hairs, bc once you've shaved or waxed, especially when you've waxed, your pores stay open for awhile and those products tend to clog and/or irritate the pores, causing the new hair growth to go in the wrong direction - into your skin.
-Be sure that the area being waxed is clean.
-Apply a bit of baby powder to the area being waxed to keep the wax from sticking to your skin as much.
-Apply wax in a very thin layer in the direction of hair growth (if the hair is pointing down apply downward), immediatly place the strip over the area and rub back and forth, holding the end of the cloth, pull directly in the opposite direction of hair growth.
-Instead of lotions, oils, or fragranced products, use a fragrance free, cooling aloe vera gel, immediately after waxing and for a few days more.
- There are also special creams/gels that you can purchase at your local drug/beauty supply store that help prevent ingrown hair that you can use afterwards.
-The next few times you shower, use a loofah to exfoliate the area, this keeps things from clogging your pores and also helps keep your skin from growing over the open pores.

-Now, you may still get ingrown hairs, there are also creams/gels for treatment of ingrown hairs that you can also find at drug/beauty supply stores.
-Another thing you can do is use sharp tweezers to carefully remove the thin layer of skin from on top of the ingrown hair, once you've done that, you should be able to pluck the ingrown hair easily, afterwards, apply a little of the fragrance-free cooling aloe vera gel to calm the area. Removing the ingrown hair with tweezers should be done as soon as you notice it, otherwise the layer of skin over the hair may become too thick.

Nads Hair Removal

I have been using NADS for several years now. I love it! I don't have to heat it, it works every time. You have to use it on hair that is at least long enough for the sugar, lemon, kiwi, etc. to grab ahold of the hair shafts. It is so quick, you don't have time to think about if it will hurt. It is virtually painless or some have a slight discomfort level. It depends on your own sensitivity level. It does not burn or sting. It doesn't have to be heated, so it can not burn or scar you like wax. It cleans up immediately with plain water. I actually have places my hair has not grown back. I no longer need to worry about plucking my eyebrows. I have NADS them for almost 3 years, and I now only have a stray hair to do about 3-4 times a year! When you use it on your legs, it may seem gross to some, to have to wait until the hair is about a quarter inch long, but afterwards, when you have used it about a half a dozen times or so, you do not need to use it as full coverage hair remover. The body sometimes has stubborn hair follicles that just keep growing, but these few hairs will be easy enough for you to remove with NADS. I am happy with the improvements of NADS as well. And I have turned on a few friends to NADS. They are in love with it too.
