Depends on what you plan on shooting.
If You're taking someone out at say 0-50 yards: .44 Mag handgun will do
0-70 YArds: 12 guage Shotgun
80-200 Yards: .308 Rifle
Taking out a Moose at 500 yards or more: 30-06 Hunting Rifle
Taking out a large target (like a car or an armoured person) at more than 400 yards: .50 Sniper Rifle
A Tank: 120mm tank gun.
Oh, and for all you Shotgun Lovers: I can take you out with my 30-06 before you can get close enough to do any damage with a shotgun!

The most powerful handgun is the Desert Eagle .50 calibur.
There are several rifles that are extremely powerful. The .50 calibur military rifle is probably the most powerful, and it was just banned in California. A rifle is going to be more powerful than a handgun of the same calibur because of the longer acceleration time the bullet has in the longer barrel.

Hi Ava,
I guess we are not talking about brands here.for pistol caliber there are .500 S&W caliber that came out lately that will make a .50AE(action express,Dessert Eagle) a kitty cat.for a rifle caliber there are lots of powerful rounds out there,in terms of velocity not by the looks of the round itself.ex. .338 lapua,.50 cal,7mm rem mag etc.sometimes it depends on the powder charge of the ammunition that makes them powerful.your question really needs a very broad answer that we are debating for years now in every firearm forums.enjoy your day!

It's a nice homemade tater gun.
This includes:
An empty paper napkin roll.
And the aluminum foil from a baked potatoe.
And you best be packin a lot of air in your lungs.
Also you could go with one of those pumped up BB guns, but the tater gun will give you better results!

they make a single-shot .50 caliber pistol -- it should go through car doors and stuff like that, or they make a .44 magnum auto supposedly to take down Kodiak bears. They let the women get away with emptying the whole magazine. The dudes have to get it done with just a single shot.
Happy hunting....

I have an ar-15 that shoots through steel rims on cars... ak-47 has a little more power but its not as accurate. For full on punch the 12 guage shotgun is great . . .low cost for the gun . . cheap ammo . . & the ability to knock a door to door salesman on his *** without opening the door (you never know when it might happen). Just be carefull . .. 'youll shoot your eye out kid'
