It depends, well for example many straight guys are unkept, and don't focus much on looks, while a gay guy can be either girly or masculine like everyone else. But then there are metro's who are straight, but are really in touch with their feminine sides.

Nowdays you can hardly tell whether a guy is a gay or straight on the first look.
But by keen observation, their body languages will tell you about their sexual orientation. Especially their eye contact. Eyes is the mirror of the soul.

a normal gay can tell easily especially those very well built but walk like a woman ....but however u can never tell a straight looking guy is a gay unless he tells u .......a guy looking at another guy doesnt imply that he's a gay .......

You invite him over and you make him a coffee on a small cup (i.e. espresso). If he lifts the cup using all his fingers, he is straight. If he picks it up with just 2 fingers and his smallest finger lifted up, he is gay!

When he looks at you if he looks away when you look at him and then looks to see if you noticed that he glanced away. Also if he is very friendly when you speak to him he might be. Or he might be g0y. And that is a whole nother animal. You would need to research g0ys and see if you could be into the same things as he might be if he is.

Best way is just to ask - but only do that if you want to pursue the guy.

it's hard to tell these days, with metrosexuals and emo-kids...but if you observe them over a extended period of time-probably several weeks, even possibly several months, you should have your answer. if you aren't arrested for stalking first.
