Been to S'pore on both bus and train.
If u are a nostalgic person...then a 1st class train should do u justice. The 2nd class (with aircond) is a bit cramped.
1st class train is much more expensive than takes longer time (7 hours). for a much cheaper, faster and at par comfort, I'll take the executive doubledecker bus.

You said you were going to Singapore during day time, so, first class sleeper is out of option (it is only for night train).
Second class seat is just as comfortable as first class. However, if you travel alone, you might want to take first class and try to get the single-seat arrangement. I mean, second class, the seats are arranged in 2-2 every row, while in first class is 1-2. So, in order to avoid some probably annoying person sitting beside you, go first class and get the single seat. Apart from that a bit of privacy issue, both arrive in Singapore are exactly the same time, and just as comfortable.

Yes it does. Comfort and fun.
By the way, it is not the cheapest, nor is this the most simplest mode of transport. But the scene and experience is worthwhile.
Imagine, there's a lot of room space. You may move about on the train. No need to hold your bladder till the next stop. You are free to do your business any time you want.
Hungry? Or thirsty? Or just feel like having something to munch? Just go to the cafe, seat at the comfortable seat, chatting with new found friends, and enjoy your order.
Have a nice trip.

If you are not in a hurry than 2nd class will do where beside that you can move around getting to know new friends and relax at the cafe, the scenery along the way that you would never able to catch if travel on the road, like kampung including the people, jungle, rivers etc but it take much longer time than coach/bus.

First class is not expensive (however it depends on your budget). Adult - 68 & Child - 38 for a return ticket. It is comfortable with lots of leg space.
However be prepared for a really long journey approx 7 hrs. Faster to travel by exec. coach or any express bus. Advantage would be you get to pass through many railway stations and you get to see some really old ones from those yesteryears.
If you are in no hurry then take the train. Its fun.

OK, so you alread saw KTM's website.
If you don't mind that there's only curtain between you and
the corridor, (and don't mind people chatting there even in
late night), then 2nd class should be sufficient fou you.
