Trust me on this one.
You can get a false negative result from a pregnancy test but not a false positive.
Pregnancy tests check for just one hormone, Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (bHCG). This hormone is only present in urine when a woman is pregnant.
The testing kit will ask for the the first morning 'wee' of the day and the levels of bHCG will be at there highest at this time. This is to prevent false negative results.
I understand that this might be a very happy or perhaps worrying time for you depending on your circumstances.
Seek out your G.P. or midwife as soon as possible to offer you impartial and understanding advice however you may feel.
I really hope that this is helpful. Good luck and best wishes.

The answer is simply YES you can.If the pregnancy test comes back negative it can most definately be posotive and ocassionally the opposite way around. You can also continue with menstruating whist pregnant.
The most common reason a pregnancy test will come back negative (when posotive) is due to the fact that the sample tested is not the first one in the morning or the fact that u have only just concieved. In the latter case u may need another test a week or two later.
Should a pregnacy test come back posotive (when actually negative) this is very often due to either a mix up at the lab or a phantom pregnancy where all the symtoms of pregnancy are displayed. The cause of this is usually because u desparately want a baby - normally after trying to concieve for many yrs. In these cases only a routine scan will determine pregnancy.
Although continuing to menstruate whist pregnant is not common it does happen in quite a few pregnancies although spotting during pregnancy is common.
I notice u say that you have done a pregnacy test, from this i assume it was one of the ones now available over the counter at chemists. Most chemists today do a pregnancy testing service which is the same as that u would be given at your drs. and is around half the price in cost. Should u wish to repeat your test this way make sure u take an early morning sample to be tested.
Howerever, there is a downside to both home pregnacy kits and those done by a pharmacist, your doctor cannot accept either as prove of pregnancy. It is general practice that ur own GP has to do the test whatever the outcome. Therefore, should u require another repeat test i would go directly to your own GP. This will save u both money and u will have a test that your doctor can accept.
Remember, if over 16 yrs of age your results and med records are confidentially and cannot be disclosed unless u wish them to be.

Highly unlikely. Falso negatives are more likely than false positives. The tests are amazingly accurate. Congratulations!

as far as I know most of them test for a hormone that is present when pregnant so if the hormone is not present your ar not pregnant however for the test to detect the hormone when it is not there I believe it is unlikely more likely to test negative when it should be positive, but not the other way around....best is to test your first wee in the morning....good luck

YES, It depends on pregtest u use, sensitivity and specificity of various kit varies from 97% to 99%, so to prevent false nagetive or positive results, you can use two or three different brand kit, because each has different sensitivity and specificity
