My son is on a baseball team, and I think it would be a GREAT idea to get the team and the parents together once a month or so and go volunteer at a homeless shelter, the boys could teach the kids how to play baseball and give them hope, the parents could help serve food or just visit with the people. Who knows maybe one of them is a long lost relative or classmate who fell on hard times. It is a small world after all!

I went to the human resources one time and ask if there was a homeless family that I could let stay with me for a few months until they could get on their feet and they told me they couldn't tell me anyone because it was against the law to tell me any names or where I could find them, SO I spent Christmas alone in my three bedroom home and some children were cold and hungry for Christmas, homeless shelters won't let the families stay together, the men have to sleep separate from the mom and kids, and u have a certain time to be out the next day, I have checked into all of this.

I have always said (and I really would) that if I ever won the lottery or came into a great deal of money I would spend my life helping others. I would go into communities where this is a problem and renovate old buildings that they could live in. The ones who were able bodied enough to work would have to help with the renovation in order to be allowed to live there. This would give them a greater sense of pride in their new home as well as show them they can work for a living. Those who didn't want to work could stay homeless for all I care. I have no sympathy for those who won't help themselves and expect things to be handed to them all their lives. These buildings would have rules such as no drugs or alcohol, no one with a violent crimal record, job counseling, training and placement, etc.

However, I have no money to do this now so all I can do is take care of myself and my son and hope that I will raise him to be a good man who will not end up like those on the street.

teach them a short term career and get them a job....for them to rent a place to live
or let the government with our taxes build them a place to stay but if they do that, then we will have more and more homeless people arriving because most of them are homeless because they like to wonder around the earth.....or running from homes, running from justice, some are crazy, some are killers, etc.....

Pay my taxes.

There are far to many governmental programs that currently help the homeless. And if the governmental programs were not enough, there are countless charities.

Homeless people need to get a damn job.

Keep the shelters open. Everyone wants homeless shelters but no one wants them in their neighborhood. Keeping shelters open keeps people off the street and gives them a place to begin rebuilding their lives.

I have found that most of them tend to enjoy being homeless. If you try to help them by offering them work or a place to live, they usually have a good excuse or somewhere they have to be.

maybe if you go to Redcross or bluecross ?? not sure what that one is .. go to their webpages.. or any other organizations .. see what volunteer work is avalible .. may not be able to help 'homeless' people directly.. but i'm sure theres a way.
there are also many other types of people who need help.. other then the homeless... such as elders... or . children in hospitals.. etc
