My daughter only drinks 8 ou. formula a day (she is almost 11 months old) and of course I take her off that in a month. She will not drink milk at all, what can I give her to supplement the milk that will be just as healthy?

My daughter eats well, just worried more about dehydration and what she will get from whole milk that she will not get drinking juice which is about the only thing she will drink and I know its not the best thing for her.

My daughter turned one last Thursday, and I had a similar problem getting her to drink whole milk. My husband only allowed her to drink Similac Advance with iron in the bottle (i.e. the liquid formula). He felt the powder signified those of a lower class? Can you believe that? So, I spent tons of money on formula. Well, halfway through her 11th month, I decided to start the process of switching to whole milk. So, I tried to give her a bottle of whole milk one afternoon, to see if she could taste the difference. And she did! Well, I had to mix half milk with half liquid Similac Advance. I poured the milk first, then the Similac, and each day poured less and less Similac, until one day it was all whole milk. This technique worked well for me. Now, she drinks exclusively whole milk. Now, when your child turns one, she only needs 16oz. of whole milk a day. The rest of her nutrients come from the foods she eats. And remembe, whole milk has absolutely no iron in it. Therefore, you will need to ensure that her foods are rich in iron, like leafy green veggies, red meat, eggs, etc.... Good luck.

Talk to your doctor about it. There are liquid vitamins available for babies that you can put in juice or water if your little one won't drink milk or formula. Also, you may not like the sound of this idea, but a drop or two or chocolate syrup or strawberry syrup (there are sugar free ones available) to make the milk or formula taste better to her. It may not be the best idea, but at least there is milk or formula getting into her body.

I had this problem with my first born. The doctor recommended 2 percent milk and Ovaltine. It has minerals and is sweet. My daughter loved it, when she was almost 2 I started weening her off that and going with straight white milk.. She is very healthy and drinks tons of milk now... With babies everything is a stage and they grow out of it if you can teach them... Beware of mixing formula and regular milk, it can give the baby colics, try some pedialyte in between the switch to calm her stomach and get her ready and craving for milk...
Talk to your Pediatrician I bet he has some suggestions about the milk percent... Good Luck.

My husband and I are weaning our son right now too!! This is how we're doing it...

For the first 4 days we used 6 oz. formula and 2 oz. milk in the bottle
Next 4 days: 4 oz. formula and 4 oz. milk
Next 4 days: 2 oz. formula and 6 oz. milk
Then it's all milk after that!!

We are still in stage 2 (4 oz. each) and he has had no problems adjusting so far...good luck !!

if you are going to give your child cows milk....DO NOT give them skim...it should be whole milk until they are 2 yrs old. they need the fat in the milk for brain development.
