It would be great if it were feasably possible. We have to leave home to go to work. Many of us travel more that 20 minutes drive to work, that would take far too long by other modes of transport, especially if there is not public transportation in the area. It would be nice if we could boycott and force prices down, but the gas companies know that it is a necessary commodity and that is why they can get away with jacking up the prices.

What if everyone in a town decided to boycott the water company to lower prices, what do you think the water company would do? They would be sitting there laughing and just wait till people started calling to get their water turned back on. You can't live without water, and you can't live in America without oil. Don't flatter yourself by thinking you have solved the country's energy crisis by talking of some stupid boycott.
Also, it probably hasn't occured to you that gas stations are owned by hard working men and women, with families. I have several friends who own gas stations as family businesses. What do you think would happen to people like this if you somehow organized a large gas boycott? Station owners make only pennies on each gallon sold in the first place, most of their income is from people buying concessions when they come inside to pay for gas. There are countless gas boycott questions on here and most are asked and answered by people with a one semester of community college understanding of economics.

They are horrible in Canada too. It would be interesting if both countries got together to boycott it and had a whole continent of protest. Are gas prices in Mexico just as bad?

I think it's time for Yankee Enginenuity (that's a Freudian trip!) to figure out how to make cars run with a cheap synthetic and then DON'T TELL THE WORLD HOW IT'S DONE.

Become the new OPEC and offer that stuff at $20 a barrel and force OPEC to drop the price of the real thing!

That's what the US and companies like Microsoft are famous for doing!

So, let's do it someone!

Let's go into competiton with the Middle East for the fuel dollar!

We'll be flithy rich!

This has been my thought for almost 1 year now.
But how would we organize it?
I truly believe that if no one bought gas for even 1-2 days, it would cause a tremendous impact.
Any thoughts on how to organize the boycott? Let me know.

Well, its not like you can't get to work at all! There is public transportation. If that isn't available in your area and you have to drive then that is another story. But if we can just all cut down on our consumption of gas then that'll do enough. Joy riding is no more! Just go out when you need it. There is always interent shopping too.

If its in the form of a nationwide strike, where nobody goes to work, nobody goes to school, and the authorities understand the whole economy is going to collapse, they might do something useful...which as I see it would be nationalizing the oil companies, siezing the assets of the stockholders, and selling gas at production cost. Do not hold your breath.

Yeah, pretty much. Can't stay home though so I think I should get a job closer to home or get a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Are you providing the money for bills and such while we all stay at home? If you are, then I'm open to it, but otherwise...I've gotta work.
