I definitly think hurting. I do buiness for a company for automotive. The unions are demanding so much, esp. money, that jobs have to be out sourced, or the company will go under. We are selling some of our machinery to a company in Mexico... thats just the way it is. Labor down there is alot cheaper. I think we are past the point in our history to have a need for the teamsters and unions. And Affirmative Action, now that I think of it!

I feel labor unions are helping today's manufacturing industries today, they help to look for the safety of the people and they are helping the industry look at things in different ways.
But I do feel the industries are hurting labor unions for they are becoming to powerful and they don't want to pay their people a fair wage for what they do. And many people in the workforce are barely living off a wage that can support a family in todays economy.

Overall, I don't think they help labor anymore. When you are in a union you get what you get - you have no room for advancement based on quality of work. There is no incentive program on an individual basis and no raise or change of benefits until your contract has expired. Unions generally demand higher wages and more benefits than non-union labor which is beneficial in the short term for individuals in the union but by increasing a companies costs - long term it will either eliminate the position or push it offshore which is happening on a grand scale now.
