for once, an INTERESTING question on these forums...a tough one, too.
there are 2 defs. of celibacy.
"being unmarried because of religious vows"
and of course "abstaining from sexual intercourse"

the first one? yea, i'd be celibate to create peace. we sorta need AIDS and diseases to keep the population in check, honestly. I'd stop cancer though, becuase that attacks people with no reason (except for the smokers and crazy tanners) but i know too many undeserving people that have died of cancer. not to say people that die of AIDS are bad, but it's more preventable and is usually contracted by doing something risky. so yea, i'd remain unmarried to create peace, because i think that's something with absolutely no downside. no hositlities, no senseless bombings, preservation of nature. i'm all for peace.

the second one...no. i mean, technically, if i had to, i could just do with out atual intercourse and do everything else and rationalize to myself and anyone who asks that any other sexual thing is not really 'sex' and doesn't count..though that's pretty much dishonest. i don't konw if i'd remain celibate, in that sense, though. there are bad things that can happen to people that have sex, STDS, unexpected pregnancies, crap that gets you on Maury, but i think that if it's used responsibly, it can be a very good thing for a relationship. plus, the option of kids. yea, i could adopt, but i think there's probably nothing like raising your OWN flesh and blood. anyway, i don't think I would fully absatin from sexual intercourse to solve any problem. maybe i'm selfish. maybe i'm human. maybe it's just because i'm 18!

Marriage is like pledging celibacy and it doesn't solve any world problems. If I could solve a worlds problem, I would like people to get over religion and the troubles it causes.

I already am celibate and have been for 10 yrs and will continue to do so. My age is not important. I would want to be an example for all people that succumb to the flesh. I want to solve the worlds problem of sexually transmitted diseases. of worrying about being excepted by society due to your sexual preferences. I want to show the world that you can truly fall in love and not lust. I'm not even a Christian so please do not vilify me for thinking that lack of sex is a good thing. To be honest w/you.... I still think about sex alot. So does that make me celibate or not?

Celibacy is different then virginity, I am not sure if I would or not, it would depend on what it was and if it really worked to solve the problem or not?

That a really tough question. On the one hand you end suffering and the ailment of millions of people. But on the other hand you will never be able to receive physical pleasure, therefore, putting yourself in a disposition. It takes a special type of person to make that vow.

Sorry, that ship has sailed...three kids and a hubby...

But on a theoretical level, I would pledge my celibacy to ending childhood disease and hunger.

No. If non celibacy is considered to be a problem the its the world that truely has the problem. You shouldn't try to resolve one problem by replacing it with another problem or outdated misconception.

I most definitely would! I would love for it to solve world hunger. I hate to see all those pictures of little children dieing from hunger. I figure it's a small price to pay.
