Chimaera - part lion (fair enough), part serpent (fair enough), part goat (what the f*ck!)

Maybe they had really menacing goats in ancient Greece.

Gomtuu, a living, feeling, telepathic animal being that is a flea-shaped, symbiotic spaceship for the beings inside of it. Incredibly lonely, it goes around the universe looking for it's own kind, and it provides sustenance and is a protective vehicle to the people who give it companionship on it's quest. But sadly, it may be the last of its kind, and it has no beings inside it. Somehow they all died when it was young and was not able to protect them fully. It's been completely alone and lost for eons ever since. But it finds a human that is tragically the only one of his kind, totally telepathic and in misery because of it. The two bond perfectly at once, and presumably spend the rest of eternity as a whole being exploring the universe together. They may never find another like either one of them, but together they are whole, so it doesn't even matter. I love it. It's just the best. My favorite story. Not classical mythology, but from Star Trek, the Next Generation. :)

Guest Cast
Harry Groener (Tam Elbrun)
Michael Cavanaugh (Captain Robert DeSoto)
Colm Meaney (Lieutenant O'Brien)
Peter Vogt (Romulan Commander)

Notes
Tin Man's name is Gomtuu in its native form; it is a space-borne organism that can function as a starship.
On one of Tam Elbrun's previous first contact missions on Ghorushda, 47 Starfleet officers were killed. Riker knew several of the officers and holds Tam Elbrun directly responsible for their deaths.
Starbase 123 detected two D'Deridex-class cruisers en route to Beta Stromgren. This is the class of Romulan Warbird that was first seen in "The Neutral Zone".
A Betazoid's empathic/telepathic abilities usually develop during adolescence. Occasionally, if they are present at birth, it can cause emotional trauma growing up because they hear other's thoughts simultaneously and are unable to cope, as in Tam Elbrun's case. Most Betazoids with this problem can never lead normal lives, due to pain and stress. Like the other Betazoids we have seen (Deanna and Lwaxana), Tam Elbrun's irises are black, like his pupils.
Counselor Troi helped care for Tam Elbrun while studying psychology at the University of Betazed.
Commander Riker was Captain DeSoto's first officer before transferring to the Enterprise.

I love Centaurs!

I used to pretend to be one when I was little. I am a Sagittarius and I've always loved horses so the idea of a being who was half human and half horse totally thrilled me!
