I have an opportunity to work with a director that can lead to more jobs. My current boss understands this, but I think he was counting on me to be here tomorrow, should I tell him and accept his frustrations and possible firings or just call in sick and he'll never know?

defiantly tell him. I know it's a lot harder this way, but #1-calling in looks bad on your part and if you don't get this other job, do you really want to look bad? #2- This way he will see that you are appreciated somewhere else and maybe offer you some type of promotion to hang onto you. Also great just in case this other job does not work out. Good luck

Try being honest, but not telling him anything he may consider a conflict of interest. Maybe say "I'm very sorry but I need a personal day today to take care of some personal issues".. you're not lying, but also not telling the whole story.

Don't put a lot of faith in "can lead to more jobs"... what if it doesn't. Its not worth risking the steady employment. Don't burn any bridges and keep your options open.

Also, do you need the whole day off? Maybe you can still do some work for the current employer and still work with the director.

This doesn't answer your question, but employer's need to adopt new policies. This business about Sick days is ridiculous. If my dog is sick and I need to take him to the vet, is that a sick day?

Enlightened businesses just call this Personal Days. You need to take a day off because your sick, you need to care for someone, you have some sort of personal emergency, or you just can't roll out of bed this morning. Whatever it is, you should be able to call in and say I need to take a Personal day to day, and that should be that.

The employer should allow you X personal days per year, so you know ahead of time.

Can you take a personal day? Honesty is usually the best policy but in this case it might hurt your current job, and future references.

best to be honest. You wouldnt want him to find out another way and fire you for lying to him about it.

Tell him the truth and maybe offer to work another day instead?

do the same i do every Friday..call out Sick and bring in ur Doctor's paper...I cud get that for u

why take a chance- don't put him in a position where he has to choose...call in sick.
