I think it's always best to err on the side of caution in matters concerning health. The chiropractic advocate in me wants to shout, Yes! Go see a chiropractor now! It will absolutely help you, but I don't know you or your situation and would hate to guide you in the wrong direction if indeed there is a more serious problem at hand.
So how about this? Make an appointment to see your doctor and get an X-ray or MRI just to be safe. If the MD doesn't find any serious threat to your health and can only prescribe you pain medication to mask this symptom, then by all means take your x-rays to a chiropractor. If it is a slipped disk or subluxation (a misalignment of the spine that pinches a nerve), a good chiropractor should be able to help you correct the problem (because it really sounds like a pinched nerve to me).
Ultimately, the decision is up to you. I just want to add that I think chiropractic care with help you immensely because I used to work in a chiro office and saw how it helped so many people with neck pain and headaches. Best of luck to you!

Check here a very effective sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Hey hun, I suggest you go to a chiropractor first.
Their appointments are usually $50 bucks cheaper than a medical doctor...if money and health insurance is a concern.
Also, there are no drugs or surgery involved; it's completely "natural".
If the chiro cannot help you, there is a good chance they will direct you to the MDs.
Thankfully, DCs and MDs are starting to work together.
I'm studying to be a chiropractor so I'm all for it.
I wish you well!!!

Personally, I swear by chiropractic care for all things spinal. Just be aware that many people (including my own doctor!) still consider chiropractic to be "alternative" care and may not support you in your choice! But I have had great success with backaches, neck pain and headaches, TMJ, and more with my chiropractor. Go for it!

I was that way after I had my daughter, I went to a massage therapist and that helped ALOT. But yeah a chiropractor can help, also try heat wraps and massages. Try to do some stretching excercises as well, those worked for me. If it doesnt get better with any of that or it has gotten more severe then see your doc right away they may have to prescribe a muscle relaxer for you. GL n GWS

I would seek medical assistance first to rule out anything else and make sure it's just a nerve or muscle pain, then go to either physical therapy (my personal choice) or a chiropractor.

Hi,
It is a fact that no one condition reflects sciatica and it would be prudent to refer to it as a generic medical term encompassing lots of symptoms that taken together describe a lower back pain that a patient suffers from. When someone complains of severe back pain that passes down to legs through his buttocks, even down to his feet and toes, doctors suspect him to be suffering from sciatica. Often sciatica presents itself as numbness or a tingling sensation that may not be anything like the severe pain commonly associated with sciatica. This tingling or numbness may be felt by the person when he engages in some activities.
On this site you can find very good tips on how to treat your sciatica: http://curesciatica.toptips.org
