there should be a computer at the library where you can look at their catalog to find certain genres of books that you would be interested in, or get recommendations from people you know about those type of books and find them by the author by going through their shelves. If u want some good recommendations IM & i'll tell you a few, I love reading & read all types of books, also some libraries have reading groups that meet once a month to discuss their book of the month, good luck

Many libraries group genres together. They'll be a western section, mystery, crime, romance, science fiction, fantasy, etc. A lot of times these are paperback collections. And some libraries have stickers on the spines identifying it as belonging to a certain genre.

They'll be your general sections of "adult fiction" which is just arranged alphabetically by author... and there could be all sorts of genres in that collection as well. So sometimes it's easier if you know what book you're looking for in that section as opposed to browsing for a particular type of book.

There are many reader advisory websites you can find on the internet to help you find a book that suits your own interests:

And the library itself may have a variety of lists on different genres or subjects. Many also have current bestseller lists.

And if you are looking for YA books, they'll all be grouped together as well. There are many "best" lists to choose from published each year for this genre.

Different libraries organise their materials differently. Some libraries shelve their novels alphabetically, while others shelve them by genre - so that all romance novels are together. The best thing to do is that when you next go to the library, ask someone on duty if they could direct you to where you can find these books, or if it's possible for them to give you a quick tour so you know for future reference where these books are located. They should be glad to assist you.

You might want to start with one of the archetypal romantic or crime writers, someone like Daphne du Maurier (or even Jane Austen) for a romance novel, or Raymond Chandler for a crime novel. You can also try Amazon, where they have reviews of books, or the bestseller list, or a site like www.whichbook.net. You can even pick a book at random.

All the books are sorted according to what type of books they are. Fiction is comprised of westerns, mystery, romance, young adult, audio books, large print, easy readers, picture books, etc... Non-fiction is also organized according to what it is about. The books are assigned call numbers. Ask the librarian for an overview of the library, and soon you'll know your way around blindfolded!

Ask a librarian for assistance-they are a wealth of information and will show you how to look up information in your library-the card catalog is usually online now. There are probably other services they offer that you don't know about. Seriously-ask a librarian-they love to help, and they make good suggestions.

go to a good book shop where the covers are alot more exposed read the back of the book to get some kind of idea whay you are looking to read make a list of the ones you liked.
Then head down to the libary with a list of books to look for rather than walking around aimlessly not knowing what you are looking for hope this helps

Once you find the right shelves for the type of book you want then it will be a lot less daunting. Ask the Librarian, that's what they are there for! Happy reading.

The easiest way is if you want a horror book then you go to the horror section. If you can't find the section then you ask the lady at the desk. If you can't manage that then don't bother going anymore.
