Is it me or is everyone listing the most poplular managers lol...what about Ron Gardenhire of the twins...he deserves a lot of respect...why does everyone give Joe Torre so much credit? How difficult is it to manage that team...especially during their run of world championships...he had 9 guys that were penciled in each position day in and day out...and a closer who is the best in the history of the game...nothing tricky about managing that team

What kind of caoch? a first base coach? A third base coach? A hitting coach? the pitching coach? Or you mean MANAGER?

A Manager is one who MANAGES the team, while the coaches COACH the team.

The meanest? Not sure.

The most respected? In my view, it has to be Jim Leyland. The players totally respect his MANAGING abilities and skills.

Bobby Cox is the most respected by his players. Several could qualify as mean, including Ozzie Guillen, who also has the utmost respect for Cox after having been a Brave himself. Ozzie is prone to tantrums and public outbursts, which make him appear 'meaner' than people who don't have much of a public view in the media.

Cox is absolutely the most respected, but the meanest is harder because you don't see the coach's personal sides. Guillen is the most likely to speak his mind in public, but i don't consider him mean. if a coach is mean, he won't succeed becuase he won't gain the respect of his players
saultdebbie, since the question is in baseball, you have to assume the question is about... baseball shocker, huh!

Gibbons - Toronto, especially after the fight he was trying to start with Shea Hillenbrand, gotta be the meanest

Torre - NYY, gotta be the most respected, he has no exceptions for any of his guys whereas Francona, he gave Manny and extra week to show up to camp, some players would look down on that

Question to wide open....please narrow the field. There are too many types of coaches and too many levels of sports. Could you be all little more precise. Do you mean professional or amateur? What kind of coach?

i dont know all of the coaches in baseball, each team has a bench coach, batting coach, pitching coach, bull pen coach, first base coach, third base coach, and there are 30 teams, so that roughly 180 coaches, i dont think anyone knows all of them, so i dont think your question could be answered. this does not include the managers, as your question says coaches.
