Cookies are attachments that many commercial web sites attach to your computer to track you and your activity online. Many just want to remember you the next time you come to the site. But some are sneaky little buggers that report back your web activities to the host site.

Download Ad-Aware SE personal from the Lavasoft site(there are fakes out there so make sure it's from Lavasoft), it's free and very well thought of(recommended by PC World). Run this every time your computer starts to get sluggish. It will clean up the pesky stuff for you.

You are going to need a lot milk...

Cookies are used by websites to track you. They store information in the cookie so when you come back later it is all there. Like the last time you visited, your login stuff (so you are automatically logged in, it also keeps you logged in between pages on the same site),etc

They are breadcrumbs for websites to track and store info on you. When you get too many they can slow your computer. To clean them (on windows xp anyway) click control panel, network and internet connections, internet options. On the general tab is a button labeled delete cookies. Click it and they are gone. While doing this you should also click delete files. This deletes temporary files made on your puter while surfing the internet.

Delete them. They are little programs that other computers hide on your system to keep track of you. Rarely are they important.
