It is a natural physical response to a sneeze so that your eyes are protected and do not pop out of their sockets from the force of the sneeze.

It's impossible to keep them open when you sneeze. Funny huh?
Someone told me to try it a long time ago, and sure enough, it's impossible. One of those involuntary functions your body does.
