Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery, however, this is only part of his greatest achievement. Lincoln may rightfully be remembered as the greatest American president because he preserved the Union when it faced the real possibility of permanent dissolution.

When I was a child, I thawt as a child, because I was taught as a child ----
"Abe Lincoln was the liberator of slaves . . ."

When I grew up and was able to learn, beyond the confines of the narrowness, afforded students thru formal education ----
I found that -

What I had been taught in school was flawed - about much of 'history", including the reported and supposed heroic and admirable actions of this country's presidents. Truth (the whole truth, not partial) was not easy to accept - Lincoln is no longer my 'hero' - nor any other elected politician.

As a personality, in a personality contest? My choices would be: JFK and Clinton (both with high profile sexual histories)

Until Lincoln, the power of each State was always considered greater than the power of the federal government. After Lincoln declared no state had the power to suceed out of the Union, he forever made our country unified as one nation, with the ultimate power belonging to the federal goverment, not the states. He was the one responsible for saving this country instead of allowing it to break up. For that, he will always be the greatest president ever.

I think FDR was the best president, He took us from the depression, WWW II, he promoted public works acts/ built roads, bridges, buildings, dams, schools, developed the te extension of the corp of engineers. He did not believe in welfare, but working for benefits. Social Security for seniors.Promoted the United Nations. He provided good leadership, while he was going thru personal health declines,He was a model in presidency for others to follow.

No. He did great things, yes, but his heart wasn't really in it. He did not think that Slavery was a bad thing, but he ended it to satisfy American voters. FDR was the best President.
