I cringe when I see all of the books out there titled this or that for dummies. It is so demeaning. I believe people just don't have the knowledge or experience and that we learn at different speeds but people are certainly not dumb.

So, why do people think that about themselves?

mainly because I have been told I am dumb enough times, when that happens you tend to believe it

i agree, that people lack in experience or knowledge at certain things. but books for dummies isn't demeaning them-its helping them.. theres no harm to say that a person can be dumb at something yet at the same time be an expert at something else. nobody's perfect. its not demeaning as 'books for dummies' is there to help that person. but you're also right no person can be classed as dumb, because everyone is good at something

being dumb means you have no common sense. Being stupid is the inability to learn.

You can always learn to have more common sense by start being more aware of your surroundings and the people in it. If you believe yourself to be stupid, then you are telling yourself that you are not intellegent enough to learn what you are trying to learn...... And I think people confuse "dumb" w/ "stupid" and that's why even these books "for dummies" are titled that way.

You are what you think you are! The titles of those books are very degrading to who you are! And if someone really thought that of themselves, then obviously they don't like it and their question should be "what am i going to do to make myself better"
