I have a 6 wk old baby girl who has been diagnosed as colic. I read that this condition peaks at 6wks. I was just wondering if anyone who has/had a colic infant could tell me their experience. When does it stop? I read usually at 3 or 4 months. She is inconsolable right now.

yes, I have given her Mylicon drops. They dont work for her. Nothing works. Other days she is just fussy and I can console her but not when she is like this.

have you tried using a baby carrier like a snuggli? My youngest cried all the time (he's 4mo. now) but he fell asleep everytime I put him in the carrier.
one more thing, make sure nobody smokes around him. or picks him up after smoking, the smoke sits in your clothes and can actually cause colic if he has a sensitivity to cigarettes.
good luck and remember, if you ever get too stressed put the baby in a safe place to cry and step out side for a few minutes maybe even ask a friend or family member watch him for a bit.

My son had colic horrably! There really is NOTHING that you can do. They told me Mylacon drops, I went throght 3 bottles in 2 months all he did was scream louder. They told me a hot watter bottle again he just cried louder. Eventully I just strapped him securly into his swing and sat on the back pourch with the door open just enough so I caould be sure that he was ok. As ok as they get with that. What I did was, I had a support group of moms and dads that had been there. I had a phone list of people that I would call to talk to. If you want some over the counter remidies I do have a few sugustions. There is a hollistic product called Gripe Water ( I coldn't find any when my guy was going through it) that I've heard wounderful things about. I don't know if you've heard of Teething Tablets (check your local healthfood store) but they make a Colit Tablets too. That did seem to help a little. As for when it stops....every baby is different. My son stopet at 12 weeks but I've heard of it lasting up to the first year. I had a really strog suppotr system of friends and family and if you have any of that you need to inlist them to help. I would be happy to talk to you or be of what support I can. I know how hard this is and you will get to a point where you hate your child we all do/have. Please feel free to email me and I'll give you my number and I can talk to you or just be there to listen. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Have you tried using Mylicon drops? Its sold over the counter at the drug store, just ask the pharmacist for it. My daughter had colic so bad when she was an infant and was crying all the time. As soon as I started using the drops(one or two in each bottle) she stopped and was a happy baby again!

I have two children and one of them had colic so bad I didn't think her or I were going to make it. She screamed, not cried, pretty much 24/7. It was awful because I knew that her tummy hurt and nothing worked. I tried drops, I breast feed and pretty much ate as bland a diet as I could. Then someone told me to take her to a Chiropractor. It sounded crazy and I totally balked at the idea at first. Finally out of desperation I took her. He treated her three times but after the first time I literally took home a new child. She was happy and slept and ate and hardly ever cried. I would find a good Chiropractor and one that specializes in treating babies as this one did. Some folks don't agree with it but I would do it again tomorrow if I had to do it over again. Good luck and I hope all gets better soon. Much Peace

My babies had colic for 9 months. I breastfed and I had to learn which foods caused the colic and avoid them. You did not say how you are feeding her. Try changing her formula or watching your diet. These are the foods that would give my babies colic if I ate them: all green vegetables, beans, nuts, eggs, milk, apples or applesauce, and of course spicy food or chocolate. I had a very bland diet. Even biscuits, cake and pancakes were out because of the milk and eggs. If you want to, try a diet like this for a couple of days and see if it works. If it works, slowly introduce a new food every day to find out what causes the colic. It takes 8-12 hours after eating a food for it to cause colic in the baby.

I have 3 children and none of them ever had colic. All colic really is, is gas. The baby can't get the gas bubbles up and it causes tummy pains. You can get drops to help that you put in the bottle. But from what I've heard, it does ease up around 3 months when they start to become a little more active and can work the gas out.

I have three kids and fortunately none of them were colics. I did have an experience with my niece. Her parents did not know what to do. I read in some magazine some years ago that putting the baby face down on your lap (be sure to support the head of course) can help. I tried that, it actually helped! That was the only thing we ever did for the baby whenever she's in her crying fit.

colic is also thought to be from an immature or under developed nervous system...My son had it and i sympathise with you..It is hard very hard..Remember it does end. My sons just magically stopped at about 3.5 months it was an all at once thing...good luck and stay strong..It is hard to have a child with colic and youfeel helpless sometimes..

Try Gripe Water. It is amazing. You can find it at baby stores, Target, etc... It does the trick for many babies.
