I have degrees in Computer Science and Information Systems. I am also getting ready to start a PhD in Computer Information Systems.
The hardware/software issue is a choice of the school. A Computer Science curriculum is typically more, well, scientific: lots of theory, math, algorithms, etc. Information Technology is, well, more technical: lots of hands-on with a focus on more practical business applications. Again, each school will be a little bit different. Don't be surprised to see a computer scientist who doesn't know how to setup a home network, and also don't be surprised to see an IT "expert" who has no clue as to how computers and software are designed.
Which one is best? That's up to you. If you are more inclined to research, analysis, and design, then pick Computer Science. If you want something more practical, then IT or CIS will do. From experience, I would say that most people are impressed with my BS in Computer Science than my graduate degrees.
As far as money, the field is so diverse that it really depends. I'll tell you that it is getting easier (and cheaper) every day to write code - if that tells you anything.
Oh yes, take it from me, you can make 6 figures doing this.

you may no longer evaluate a guy to a female. each and each is distinctive. yet a guy, and a female, supplement one yet another. In different words, one guy and one female (jointly) is one unit. they seem to be a complementary pair.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for something to make allot of money neither one is very good. In an IT position you are going to top out in the mid 30's. CS would be a little higher but neither one is going to get you 100k per year.
