Oh no, migraine. :-( Have you eaten and slept enough? Some people have a tendency to migraine while others only get them if they are very tired or have not eaten - the clue is the nausea and brightness. Is the headache one sided? That would confirm it. The only thing to do is lie in a dark room and drink lots and eat carbs even if you really don't feel like it. If it keeps happening there are good meds. I get them very badly and take tablets 5 times a day but there are tablets you can have just when you get one that are quite good.

More than likely, he is having tension headaches, as that is what amitipteline is prescribed for. I used to get tension headaches. A medication that worked well for me was flexeril. However, there are other things he can do to help alleviate the pain. He should try massaging his temples. The temples are not at the upper corners of your eyes. They are actually a little further back, in the hair. Also, he can try massaging his neck of each side of his spine. I do these things for 10 mins about 3 times a day, and I do not have tension headaches anymore. Also, I no longer take medication for these headaches either.

He probably suffers from migraines.
My son has the same problems. He is a teen now but for years we went through all the tests and MRI's to determine what it was and were glad it wasn't a brain tumor. Some migraines get triggered for a variety of reasons: diet, allergies, stress.
If he sees shooting stars too and is sensitive to lights or sun then it is migraine related. They can last up to 3-4 days and the best thing is Phenergan® (promethazine HCl) and sleep. My son takes allergy meds that help lessen the chances of headaches that lead to migraines.

Could it be more obvious? He is experiencing migraine headaches. I get them myself once or twice a month. Sometimes they are mild and I can get through my day, albeit begrudgingly. Sometimes I am so nauseated by them I have to throw-up, or my vision gets so blurred I just have to stop trying to function and go to bed. I have never found a medication that agrees with me, so I just take 'em as they come.

The problem could be any number of things- Including low blood pressure, a tumor, or perhaps a stroke. The doctor you're working with has a better chance of finding out than I do.
Good luck!

There are a lot of thing with those symptoms, I am sure you are worried, but it would be best to wait for your doctor. Not even a doctor who would be on here to answer this question could really tell you without seeing him. Best of luck to you and your family.

Has he had his eyes checked? Astigmatism could cause all of those things. I've also heard that diabetes could cause those also.
