I came across this link on Kevin Sites' website (he is a photo-journalist covering world conflicts/conditions), under an article about mothers that dig through trash to make a living in Haiti....www. missionsinhaiti .com The young family on this website moved to Haiti and are doing missionary work. It is absolutely amazing what they have accomplished and the young lives they have touched. But once I started doing a web search on sponsoring a child in Haiti... there are so MANY groups in that country.

Would you sponsor a child in an impoverished area of the world and what would be the criteria for choosing an organization to send your money to (since so many are corrupt)?

So a lot of you have mentioned sponsoring children here... fair enough... I agree with you- its a valid point. What organization do you work with?

*WE have public organizations here that do support those in need. I believe that is why it is important to help those that do not have these types of resources available to them.

i sponsor 3 children in africa. world vision is one of the best, if not the best organizations out there for world relief. they have a very low ratio of money spent on the organization -vs- money going to the actual people in need. they also use money to teach the people how to better themselves. for example, teaching them sustainable farming tecniques and then giving them fruit trees, or chickens, or a cow, etc. it is the idea of teaching a man to fish - not just giving him a fish.

I've always been a little weary of those organizations. I would rather give my money directly to the impoverished children and not have it go through anyone else. I have a feeling that those places take a large chunk of the money you send in.
