Hey everyone,

So here's the deal. Frankly, I've had enough of this. I've decided that something needs to be done. Sexual Assault is a crime that has plagued this country for centuries. Year after year hundreds of thousands of offenders are proven guilty and numerous lives and families are destroyed. Though despite the seriousness of the offense what happens to those offenders? 3-6 years in prison? That's it. I'm sick and tired of such menial punishments for such ridiculous acts of indecency. There simply has to be change, it's needed. If you have read this far, I only ask you for one more thing. Please take a few moments and visit my online petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/60364... . Read it and simply sign your names. That's all I ask. And if you do agree, please help me spread the word, as that is the only way this petition will get off the ground. Thank you for your time.

First of all, I believe the entire system has become too lenient. A sentence no longer means anything. A twenty year sentence only means you have to sit in an air-conditioned prison and watch TV for two to four years before getting out and getting a million dollar book deal. The death penalty should be brought back for many crimes, not just murder (but for every kind of murder for sure). Secondly, I think you have to define the different types of sex offenders. I think we look at this as one kind of crime, when in fact, it's several. There is a huge difference between a 40 yr old man assaulting a 6 yr old, and an 18 yr old and his 15 yr old girlfriend. Yet these two situations often fall under the same categorization and punishment. Personally, I believe the the 40 yr old should be executed, while the 18 yr old, depending on the circumstances, might need some guidance, community service, or even prison time. There are many situations in which the crime the girlfriend accused never occurred. So, good point, good question, and good petition. I just think that also, we need to look at this from an even broader scope, and dig a little deeper. There isn't one simple answer to such a complex problem.

There are a couple points I would like to make. 1) sexual offences are a horrible crime, no one is debating that. However, sex crimes are one of the lowest frequency crimes of any. They reoffend at approximately 15% over 5 years. Most other types of crimes go up to over 50-60%. Its only because the news loves to put out the sensational cases on the news which makes it look like they all reoffend. Empriical articles are more valid than CNN. Increasing prison time only serves to increase future crimes. The literature is very clear on this - longer prison sentences = more incidences of crimes. This is not surprising as prison serves as a breeding ground for pro-criminal thinking. Countries such as Canada and Austrailia that have shorter sentenes for sex offences have lower recidivism rates for their offenders because they utilize a rehabilitation method over a punishment method such as the US model. Its fine that you want punishment but isnt' that a selfish reason. Wouldn't be more beneficial to ask what is the most effective way to elimiate future sexual aggression. Most of these responses would not be helpful with the problem.

As a Rape survivor, I agree 100% Their punishments are a slap on the hand for horrendous crime. I believe they give up their rights the second that they choose to touch someone inappropriately in ANY way. They should be without question expelled from the community. We have DNA on our sides and confessions... come on! Expelling them is much nicer than I would like the punishments to be. Who cares what liberals think?! Let it happen to them, let those animals live next to them if we can't ship them off! THEY CAN NOT BE REHABILITATED! I don't care what they say! They rape, molest, why is it so hard to believe they would lie?

Thank you, Corey, I really appreciate everything that you are doing:) and Thank you to all of you that take part in holding sex criminals accountable. It's good to know that I'm not alone!

Infuriates me that they have changed the name to Sexual Battery, Sexual Assault, Sexual Offenders.

Lets also point out another Important FACT. There are a lot of rapes and molestations that are not reported. So for those Physciatrists that think that these animals can be effectively treated and that harsh punishment is not the answer... What if it were you, your daughter, your mother, you grandmother, your wife that was a victim of rape? Would you be so quick to have them treated and turn around and be your next door neighbor? Are you, Alex and any other that agree with his statement, willing to risk a 15% chance of re-offending? Which is a BS statistic by the way and you know it!
For the record, NO! I'M NOT SELFISH FOR WANTING SAFETY AND JUSTICE NOT ONLY MYSELF, MY CHILDREN, FAMILY, FRIENDS AND ANY ONE. This crime should be completely unacceptable!
Alex did bring up an idea that might have merit. Take away their citizenship! Deport them to Australia! SHARKS NEED TO EAT TOO!

Lets be real for a minute Alex and any other sex offender therapist, physciatrist, physcologist... If all of these monsters were gone, YOU'D BE UNEMPLOYED!

"My Six Convicts", an autobiography by prison psychologist Donald Powell Wilson, made the point long ago that harshness of punishment, including the death penalty, was not much of a deterrent (although obviously dead men can't commit another crime and imprisoned men have only their guards and other prisoners to prey on). We have learned that some types of sexual offenders are incorrigible. Answers: better apprehension, fewer courtroom loopholes, and sufficiently long prison terms.

Plus it is really hard to prosecute, because there is a statue of limitations. WHY IS THERE A STATUE OF LIMITATIONS ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS?! My sister turned 20 and finally had the guts to stand up to him because she was remembering more things, I wanted to help but it turned out her case was just going to be thrown out of court because she was too old. Thats bullsh*t. I tried to view your petition but it says its not valid.
