RB
LT of the SDC

RB, unquestionably.

Depending on your scoring system and personal preference, you're safe taking one of three players:

Larry Johnson
Shaun Alexander
LaDainian Tomlinson

Shaun Alexander is the safest pick, but I like Johnson's upside better.

QB: Manning. Should not be taken before the latter half of the first round. Personally, I'll pass altogether because talented RBs are more of a commodity than talented QBs...there are about 10-11 QBs worth starting, and you will find one in the middle rounds. Good luck finding a solid RB that late.

WR: Any one of the top 5 will do...nobody is head and shoulders above anyone else. Unless you have the last or 2nd to last pick in the first, you shouldn't begin thinking about a WR until Round 2, and if possible, refrain from drafting one until you have two solid RBs first.

In one of my fantasy football teams we have already had the draft. I got lucky and drafted third and was able to get Johnson from the chiefs. But 4 of the first 5 players selected were all running backs. Alexander, LT, Johnson then Barber. Manning was drafted 4th. But usually a good RB will be taken in the first round.

RB - this position is the most versatile and usually gets the most points for your team

The RB can run the ball (rush yardage, rush TD), catch the ball (receiving yardage, receiving TD), and in a few cases throw the ball (passing yardage, passing TD). RBs can also be used in punt and kick return situations, padding their totals for your team.

I couldn't say who to take since I do not know which draft spot you have. However, Larry Johnson, Shaun Alexander, and LaDainian Tomlinson are the top three ... with Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis and Tiki Barber holding the next three spots. Steven Jackson, Rudi Johnson, LaMont Jordan, Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown, and Domanick Davis are good late first round or early second round picks.

REgardless of what anyone says, it is easily a RB. Most will tell you that. I make a good living playing FF and there are just not enough studs at RB. Without one of the big 5 or 6 you will have a tough season. As to who? I like Alexander and LT, but do NOT balk at taking Larry Johnson from KC!

The question that seems to plague all fantasy football players. The answer is fairly simple and it is RB. Regardless of scoring, regardless of starting positions, and regardless of owners - draft a RB in the 1st round.

There are 2 main reasons for selecting a RB in the 1st round. The 1st is depth at RB. While this year may be one of the deepest years at RB in recent memory, there are only so many RB's you can call a consistent stud RB, and that generally means 1400 yds rushing (or 1600 rushing & receiving) and 10+ TD's. The players on this list are Shaun Alexander, LaDanian Tomlinson, Tiki Barber, Edge James, Clinton Portis, and Rudi Johnson. On the cusp of being consistent, year-to-year stud players are Larry Johnson (his potential is ridiculous as he is projected #1 overall), Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, and Steven Jackson. Most every other RB is either coming off of injury (Julius Jones, Dominick Davis, Willis McGahee, Deuce McAllister, DeShaun Foster, etc.) rough previous season (Kevin Jones, Cedric Benson), starting to age/decline (Corey Dillon, Ahman Green, Jamal Lewis, etc.) or are just starting/just entering/splitting carries (Frank Gore, Chester Taylor, Dominic Rhodes, Joseph Addai, Laurence Maroney, Reggie Bush, Thomas Jones, etc.). There are other RB's out there, but they fall somewhere into these categories.

The other reason is return on value. By selecting a QB, notably Manning and Manning only, in the 1st round you are getting the best talent available at QB. Unless you are selecting Peyton with the last pick in the 1st round, you will see at least a full round (10 or 12) plus whatever number of picks until it gets back to you. Let's say you have the 6th pick in a 12 team league and you take Manning in the 1st round. When the 2nd round pick gets back to you, you have the 19th pick. Chances are at least 12-14 RB's will already be taken. Even if you're hell bent on taking a QB in the 1st 2 rounds, who would you rather have: Manning and Julius Jones, or Edge and Palmer/Hasselbeck/Brady/list another QB except for Manning? I wouldnt even want to select a QB b4 the 4th round at the earliest.

As for QB, Peyton Manning he is 1st round talent, but you can get very good - great QB talent much later in the draft. You can get the likes of Jake Delhomme, Jake Plummer, Drew Bledsoe, and Trent Green in the 6th round or later. If you can pick up someone like Bledsoe in the 7th round while spending the first 6 rounds building RB & WR depth, you will be well off.

As for WR, it is rare when WR's put up comparable FF stats to WR's. The anomalies are Steve Smith last year, TO from 2 years ago (until he got hurt), and Moss from a few years earlier. Also, check to see if you get pts for receptions. In my leagues, I give .5 pts/reception. This helps make WR's a little closer in scoring to RB's, but generally a top RB scores 2-4 more points then a top WR.

If you have the first pick you take SHAUN ALEXANDER, OR LARRY JOHNSON and don't even think about it. You shouldn't take a QB until 5th round unless Peytons out there in the second. As far as WR's I would take (and in this order T.O., Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Torry Holt, Larry Fitzgerald, and Marvin Harrison) and I wouldn't take one of them unless I had a late 2nd round pick or early 3rd round pick. Try to go RB in the second round again since there isn't an abundance of quality RB's this year. Good Luck

everyone chooses a RB but in almost every type of league the number one Fantasy Point producer will be a QB

RB. No question. The difference in expected point value throughout the season between the top player and the average player is greater at RB than at any other position.

I always go RB first - but my top 5 by position:

RB: LJ, LT, Alexander, Portis, Edge (Barber, Rudi)
WR: Chad, Tory, TO, Smith, Harrison, Moss (Fitz, Boldin)
QB: Peyton, Brady, Palmer, Bulger, Delhomme (I'm still afraid of Bledsoe and Warner - but they could have big years)
