My car check engine light came on, so I took it in and put it on a computer and that is what they came up with, it needs a O2 sensor, never even heard of it, but I know it makes a big diference in how your car runs. It seems like it is really not wanting to go when you start out from a stop, it really bogs down.

If you can't spell oxygen, or use the spell check, you probably can't do it yourself.

Hello,

Stephen * is right. Getting out the lambda(oxigen)-sensor needs practice and is potentially dangerous, bacuse normally this sensor needs to be replaced when the egine is warmed up, this means the exhaust is hot (the be more precise, f*#ß$ng hot :O).
The sensor has a ceramic coating and is very vulnerable. You drop it or bend it a little and it's over. Problems start when you want to remove it from an older car, it's generally seized and the exhaust pipe can break when you loosen it. Even when your mounting point is intact, you should have a torque wrench to tighten the sensor. Installed with any other torque than the specified, makes the sensor to measure false values.
The sensor itself is not cheap (100-150 USD) and you should replace it every 100,000 km's or every 3-4 years.

FYI: the lambda(oxigen)-sensor measures the concentration of the oxigen in the exhaust referenced to atmospheric oxigen concentration. From this value, the engine management system of the car is able to regulate the air/fuel ratio of the mixture, thus maintaining fuel economy, power and emission.

Best Regards!
