No, because it takes away from thier right to choose about their body. It isn't like a haircut that will eventually grow out. It is a permenant thing. I think that parents should let thier daughters choose at an appropriate age (12 or so) if they want them pierced. Besides, I think it would be terrible for a child at such a young age to suffer unneeded pain if it was to get infected.

I have a daughter that is 11 years old and autistic. She was diagnosed when she was 3. When she was a baby, I had thought about getting her ears pierced, but now I'm glad I didn't. It would just be problematic now.
As for your situation, I don't think there is anything wrong with babies having their ears pierced. (I've even seen a few baby boys with one ear pierced).

Absolutely not. I would wait until she was older (7, probably) and let her decide for herself. Chances are she's going to want to have her ears pierced, so it'll be even more special if mom drives her out to the mall, lets her pick out her own studs, etc.
I'd worry about a baby grabbing her ears and ripping the earrings out, getting an infection, snagging it on something...not good.

I would wait till they are old enough to know and feel pain so they can tell you if it hurts. I know of some babies that have experienced the post creating sores behind the ears due to the post poking them. Some have swelled the ear to the point that the ear ring become trapped in the hole. Some even have allergic reactions to certain types of materials such as gold or silver.

I have also wondered why parents would do that to their daughters. "It looks cute" seems to be reason enough for most of the answerers. Unbelievable. As far as pain is concerned, what makes people think it hurts less when they are babies? I have seen babies at the mall getting their ears pierced - they scream. Oh, well. As long as they look cute!

I have seen babies get them done at 1 month. I wanted to ge them done on my daughter but she kept having this thing were she would pull on her ears, so I was afraid to have them done. Then when she got older, I would try, but then she kept having ear infections. Now she's 17 months old and I'm going to get them done when I find someone to hold her down with me.

I wonder that too. My daughter is 13 months old, and although the piercings sometimes looks cute, I wouldn't want to put her through pain because I wanted to make her look "pretty". It seems really selfish to me. I wont have my daughter's ears pierced until she's old enough to ask to have it done.

My mother pierced my ears when I was very small and nothing happended to me. I turned out just fine. And if the girls don't like having their ears pierced once they're older, they can just leave the hole close and there's no problem.

It's not painful or traumatizing. I was about 2-3 months old when my ears were pierced. It is not a big deal. Sometimes kids don't even notice or cry!

No I wouldn't. She should be allwowed to get them when she asks for them and is ready for the responibilty of taking care of them herself (infection etc.) It's a step towards woman-hood if you ask me and should be a choice each girl is allowed to make own her own and not be mommies little dress up doll and cause her pain when the little girl doens't understand why mommy would hurt her so bad.
