It’s the same mentality that has taken hold in this country. We all know its catch phrase: “If you are not for us, you are against us”. It’s a mindset so enraptured in fear that it can only see things in black and white; completely oblivious to all the shades of gray that are in between those two extremes. One cannot be a patriotic American and dissent against the policies of international aggression by this administration; so we are told by conservative propagandists. You cannot be a decent Jew unless you assent to all the aims of Israel and the Zionist movement. That is a notion that we are fed not only by staunch Jewish supporters, but even by conservative evangelical Christians.

Though I happen to agree with Israel’s response to Hezbollah, I can empathize with how easy it is for people to vilify you just because you are independent enough to criticize something that many Jews and conservatives take to be sacrosanct. I respect your right to do so, and I would not think anything less of you for doing so. It takes a discerning mind not to accept everything as coming in a neat package, where if one subscribes to a particular view, or if you belong to a group of people, that you must adhere to a whole set of corresponding principles and the views popular among those people. I applaud you for intellectual integrity.

Understand that there is Israel, as in the place, and Israel as in the State (i.e. government, politics, etc.). Disagreeing with Israeli action does not make you an anti-semite. Americans disagree with America, Israelis disagree with Israel. Jews just have a tie in that the place is a religious factor as well. That is often confused to mean that you must agree with everything that Jews do. This is false.

You don't have to think that a Jewish store owner, lawyer, or non-profit AIDS organization is doing the best thing. You would not be the wisest, however, to say "those dumb Jews always..." if you are Jewish and a statement like that would sound anti-semetic. Dumb actions have nothing to do with who you are - unless you're being racist.

I feel bad that you had a hard time being raised as a Jew. It is not easy and if not conveyed properly could trigger negative emotions. Naturally, I need not go that you there seemed to be a restriction on everything. If it was just "taxed" on you and were degraded for your wondering I could imagine your difficulty as a youth.

If you don't want to practice Judaism I only have two things to say. One is that it has nothing to do with being an athiest. Something got something going. There is a Creator. The other thing is that not finding the right transmittor of information does not mean they do not exist. Search for a Lubavitch Rabbi and perhaps he can express truth to you in a different manner than it has in the past, something I am limited in doing via this response.

Here are some points which are true:

- It is possible that critism of Israel is really a form of anti semitism while other critism not so.
- It is possible for a Jew to be an anti semite if that Jew adopts anti semitic views. Being a Jew does not negate that fact.
- What one's background is is somewhat irrelevant but is is very telling in how they think, especially considering how they present that background

That being the case, if you have said anything anti semitic whether in a context of Israel or otherwise, then people are perfectly justified in calling it such.

Well, without considering your religious preference we could debate the actions of Israel purely on ethical and political grounds. I am not a Jew but I support Israel 100%. While their reaction to attacks may seem harsh to you, The best deterrent to an action is an overwhelming reaction. The fact that you are an atheist is totally unrelated to your ignorance of the facts surrounding the Arab-Israeli conflict which has gone on for 58 years. Dislike their methods all you want, they are just. It is self defense. The Israelis did not strike first and were it not for Hamas, Hezbollah, and Al Qaeda all Israels neighbors could live in peace with them.

Jethro is that you? I commend you sir, for your honesty and clarity of mind. May I suggest that people here read an out of print book called Perfidy.. It's a Classic. It will enlighten some of the unwilling.

Labels mean nothing, so don't let it disturb you in the least. I am a non-Jew, but as a humanist my friends are varied and diverse. I can then speak honestly because I am the recipient of many religions and philosophies. Each one of my friends are like you and refuse to be indoctrinated by the bias and hate that official religion and race preach. I am richer for my life experiences.

Well guess what, you certainly are a Traitor then.

Jews who convert to the Christian faith never forget their Jewish roots, in fact Jewish converts to the Christian faith maintain a lot of Jewish traditions.

God said he would bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel and how true that is.

Not to mention the small Nation of Israel has with God's help taken on larger armies many times.

Heck if they ever wanted to go against North Korea then North Korea would be in huge trouble.

God Bless Israel and may God have mercy on those who wish to curse Israel.

Anti-Zionism is continually perplexed with Anti-Semitism, and many easily use criticism of Israel as a politically ideal thanks to voice their anti-Semitic beliefs. besides the undeniable fact that, you're correct to tell apart both. truly, a range of of that is from pretend beliefs and jealousy. Jews were continuously seen as foreigners contained in the lands of others, and foreigners, pretty contained in the spectacular centuries, were continuously seen with suspicion. Suspicion that has, regrettably, no longer been eliminated however shown different cases to be pretend. some each and every man or woman is purely too stuck of their previous strategies, and it passes on some generations. Jealously, because of the suspicion Jews were forced right into a lot less proper niches that ended up being quite rewarding. The Catholic Church forbidded banking; besides the undeniable fact that, the Jews said the prospect, and as destitute as they were left, took it and profited. similar issues befell with Hollywood, from my expertise, and on account that of this Jews were a heavy impression there because it is earliest cases. Jews are truly useful. also, you're correct, some human beings truly make uneducated feedback. as an party, i have seen issues that haven't to any extent further something to do with Israel; besides the undeniable fact that, because a Jew is in contact a lot of human beings go away comments that denounce Israel, and the position you could remark different cases human beings purely junk mail the undesirable section. from time to time, Jews are not even in contact: i have seen something commenting on another area of the international and Israel remains denounced by some moron. concerning to Hassidism, do no longer overlook that they gown stereotypically Jewish, and hence must be the objectives. i truly won't be able to provide you a reason. i ought to assert Israel; besides the undeniable fact that, it must be established that Israel isn't the issue. we were hated, and continuously will be; besides the undeniable fact that, we are a proud and headstrong human beings, so we're not going to enable it get us down or save us from transferring ahead.

Atheism denies God and is therefore a poor answer to your negative feelings about Judaism. Many people come back to their faith and their church as they grow older, or find that they really need God in their lives. Some go on a "search", trying a number of different churches and congregations until they find one that they can relate to. Not trying to sign you up, but it doesn't have to be Jewish.

I gave up Islam for similar reasons... and follow my own judgement... yet both the fundamentalists and the neo-con western imperialists find me revolting. I keep wondering if fundamentalism is a universal phenomenon... you can have a fundamentalist modernist too! And it is equally hard talking to either of them. They just don't see reason. One plays right into the ploy of the other and thus they mess up whatever is worth preserving.

As for the cool1978 guy... he sounds as self righteous as any believing Muslim or Christian!
