Gollum:

In Lord of the Rings, Gollum actually leads to the destruction of the One Ring (which is why it was necessary he live through the Hobbit and the earlier parts of LOTR)

He was obsessed by the Ring, driven a little mad to the point where he left his secret mountain cave to come after it

Smeagol's (Gollum's) brother/cousin (I can't remember sorry) Deagol found the Ring and Smeagol strangled Deagol for it. This led to his downfall.

He crept away to the mountains, driven away by his people.

He learned to be sly, stealthy and quick in his thefts
He learned to fight and to kill in stealth - and spent many of his years in a cave in the mountains strangling the occasional goblin and living in secrecy
He must have been an able climber and swimmer
He loved to fish
He was able to riddle with Bilbo

he could see pretty good in the dark, He could fish, he knew his way around the cave or tunnel he lived in. He was devoted to his precious, except he got careless and lost it. he was obsessed with finding it again. I dont think his sence of smell was all that great, or he would have been able to find Bilbo, even when he was invisible. He was pretty good with riddles, but not good enough for Bilbo.I think his only hobby was self pity.
