How can anyone not be liberal?

Look at history. If we did not have liberals, we would still be living in the dark ages. It is liberal (open to new ideas) policies that have advanced civilizations. If we always stay with the status quo, we would not have advanced to where we are today.
In America, liberals got women the right to vote, ended slavery, changed medicine for the better, set up our free press, ended child labor, created safer work places and highway safety, created environmental policies, created free schools for all. The list could go on and on.
Let's admit we are all liberal and realize the fallacy of "the good old days" was just that. A fallacy.
Life expectancy has never been longer. Crime rates have never been lower. Our middle class, while now paying a larger percentage of taxes then ever before, has never been larger.
Blaming liberals for our nations faults is our way of not taking responsibility for our own actions.

When you answer, could you please do a few things. First, don't be abusive to me. I am trying to have an intelligent debate. Second, check your work. Mistakes only make you look silly. If you want to prove yourself, think things through and go back to read what you have written before you post it.
My premise is that the definition of "liberal" is "favoring progress or reform". How can anyone be opposed to that?

I'm with you in principle, but I think your method of getting your point across is slightly flawed. You cannot just attack the term conservative as both the terms conservative AND liberal are 2 sides to a coin that are supposed to represent what is the best interest of the public. They both have some very noble principles at their core.

What is most aggrevating is that the conservative vs. liberal debate is mute because the people that we elect are neither conservative nor liberal. As of right now I think they are far closer to Authoritarian. This is not left vs. right, republican vs. democrat, or liberal vs. conservative. Corporate controlled media has managed to convince people that this is the debate, but the real debate should be the interests of the 2% of people that own 95% of everything vs. the rest of us. Republicans AND Democrats are sellouts and have been for the last century.

It works like this.

1 You get money for your election from corporate sponsers.

2 When you win election those same corporate sponsers take on the boring task of writing legislation you were elected to write.

3 You get more money to run campaigns for bigger offices or the same office, if you win go back to step 2, if you lose go on to step 4

4 You are rewarded after the people see you for the fraud you are by being hired by the corporations you most helped as a lobbyist, thus helping someone else in steps 1-3.

From an intellectual standpoint its pure genius, from a moral one it is utterly reprehensible.

I am liberal. I pay taxes. I absolutely understand why people who work hard would be against welfare and believe that promoting the success of commerce will allow everyone to prosper by the trickle down effect. I understand when/why people have strong beliefs in propriety, religion and believe that others would succeed if only they thought just like them.
