My favorite horror movie is "The Innocents" (1960).
What makes it stand out is that it is all quite subtle, but the filming techniques and suggested atrocities that you never actually see make it much more goose-pimpleish than newer movies that just throw the apparitions and gore and blood right out at you.
It is actually a movie version of "The Turn of the Screw", written by that master of intrigue, Henry James. It stars Deborah Kerr, Michael Redgrave and two child actors who are perfectly cast.
Excellent choice for Halloween watching!

"The Shining" with Jack Nicholson. It was an absolutely terrifying account of descent into madness. Also had a good bit of the supernatural in it. The older horror movies like this one and the original "Halloween", "Christine", the ones that had edge of the seat shock value as opposed to just blood and gore were the ones that I really like.

This is a tough question, so I decided to challenge my brain after many easy ones. I don't like many horror movies now. My brother and kid sister do. All that comes to mind is "Dangerous Seductress"(1992, Indonesia). I got it because I heard that sexy Amy Weber is nude in it. Tonya Offer is also, but I don't like her. Amy's scenes are enough to make the movie worth owning to me. The story is OK, not great...but it's as good as many Stephen King films my brother loves.

ummm i don't really have one , but I always recommend staying away from pointless bloody, gross, scary movies, they'll just leave you grossed out and it'll ruin the mood (if you're with someone special). i suggest some scary movies that make you think about what happened. You'll ask yourself questions about the movie afterward. "So what happened to the girl?" "Did he really commit suicide?" I think that the best scary movie in the world is the Grudge and i can't wait for the Grudge 2

"The Ring" I normally just laugh at the blood and gore movies. The thinking horror movies get me.

I thought "The Ring 2" was really good. Alot better than the first one. As far as why... any movie that makes my hair stand up, especially more than once, and gives me goose bumps is a great movie.
