First, look in your local newspaper or yellow pages for a bartending school. Call up and find out how much it is. I went to one a few years back and it was less than $400.00. Class was two weeks. The instructor taught us how to interact with customers, taught us memory tricks to remember what goes in different drinks, then we paired off in twos and served each other (with colored water), to practice interacting, etc. On the last day, we had to make 14 drinks in 10 minutes. (approx. It's been a long time.) I enjoyed it, hope you will too. OH, I got a job the first week after the school. (We put ingredients for each drink on a 3 x 5 index card to take with us, many bars have these collections right there by the register.)

You don't have to go to bartending school to be a bartender. Most places train you on the job. Bartending schools range from a week or two and a few hundred dollars to more intense programs that last longer and cost a few thousand. Look around and make a few calls. You will find something that fits what you are looking for.

You can work as a bartender anywhere. If you choose school, then you can get placed in a nicer, bigger place. you can be union and make a good hourly wage and collect tips. You can choose a local place and maybe not work as hard, by making all the fu-fu drinks that a big club does, but make the same tips or more. You have to work all the big days. That means Fri., Sat. If you like to hang with your friends then this might be a problem. But your making money though.

I took a bartending class at school, you have to be certified in TIPS to pass the class. If you are Certified in TIPS, that's head's up for hirer. I'm not old enough to bartend, but the test was so easy. It's basic common knowledge and we only spent one day in class talking about TIPS, then took the test..... OH yea, do u like NFL, go to a local NFL stadium... it's easy being a bartender, fast way to learn to, they'll take the time to show you what you need to do :)
