I completely agree with you but the reason for the privacy statements and that is for the company to keep themselves safe from lawsuits and everything of that nature. It is just a must have for any website that offers anytype of service.

I read them about half of the time. A lot of the time I just glance over the main points to see if there's anything that looks out of the ordinary. If it's a site I'm not sure if I should trust, I'll definitely read them before signing up there.

It would be nice if there were standardized versions of the privacy policies so you would have to see it just once, and the rest of the time you could just look and see, oh, this site complies with the standardized Prithelon privacy policy, it's okay. Or they could just list their variances.

If you're on Yahoo! Answers, all you really need to read is this:

I find those privacy things sort of a joke, because all sorts of info is already available on the internet anyway.

I keep a web site and a blog, after all. It's not hard to find information and spam the heck out of my email box.

Not usually...sometimes they throw something in there that is quite funny. For example, when installing Windows 2000 it says that Java can cause death and destruction. Some have nonsensical things in them. But most are boring and just about identical anyway.

I don't read them, because if you don't agree with what it says they won't let you use their site or sevice, so you pretty much have to agree to their terms, so there's really no need to read them.
