Some of these answers really surprise me. A lot of people just don't know what they're talking about. And don't worry about how graphic you are. You have a question that needs an answer. The discharge could be either. You may be starting your period or you could be pregnant. Do you normally have brown discharge before you start? If not, I would lean towards pregnancy. With both of my pregnancies I had light brown bleeding. It's called breakthrough bleeding. All it is is old blood in your cervix that is being cleaned out so to speak. Take a pregnancy test (First Response is the most accurate for early testing) and find out. Good luck!

I had implantation bleeding about a week before my period was due, just like you're describing, but mine lasted around 3 days but wasn't anywhere near as heavy as a period, just a bit of spotting. I almost thought it was my period until I found out i was pregnant. Take a pregnancy test on the first day of your missed period (should it be late) to make sure.

You can spot (brownish discharge) before your period (usually up to a week before you are due to start), during implantation if you are pg (usually around 10 days after conception) and also occassionally at ovulation.

Sounds like you could be pregnant. That is called implantation bleeding. Most women do experience that, I had it with both of my pregnancies. Take a test.

If you have been trying, or having unprotected sex, its possible.
I'd just keep plugging along until you can take a test. Or, if you dont want to wait, you can take yourself down to the doctors and have a blood test done, they can tell long before you're late.

Brownish could only indicate either:
1. Blood (most likely)
2. Bile
3. Fecal matter
If it continues you should make and appointment with the ob-gyn.

My birth control used to do that to me at random. Best to buy the test or see your doctor!
