Well, unless you plan to be home every weekend, I'd say, you really need to at least pack a whole season's worth of your wardrobe. ie. Take everything that will take you through the last days of summer and well into autumn. Then when you are home next, you can swap out some of those summery clothes for some more wintery clothes.

Bring enough for at least a week, but take into consideration how often you plan to do laundry. Wardrobes are usually very casual, so I wouldn't worry about many dressier clothes. Also, if you're going to school in a cooler climate and where you won't be home very often, you'll need to bring clothes for cooler weather too.

well u will go into it thinking you will do laundry once a week, but u wont, its okay no one does, so you will need 2 pairs of clothes for each day (rough figure, in case u work out or wanna go out or it was rainy, etc) and then say 3 weeks worth before you run out so 21 days times 1.5 is about 30 shirts and pants/shorts
o yea its college, so thats if you really wanna wear new clean fresh clothes every day... otherwise pretty much every girl that isnt like a snobby barbie will wear sweatpants to class.

For a guy -
Just pack enough to get you through until you know you'll be coming back home for say... Thanksgiving or Christmas break. If I'm going anywhere for any extended period of time (like a semester), I pack enough to give me variety for 2 weeks between laundry days:
10 pairs pants/jeans
10 nice t-shirts
5 button-down shirts
a handful of tank tops and shorts just for lounging or beaching
2 AWESOME party outfits
15 pairs underwear
1 pair nice dress shoes, 2 pairs nice sneakers, 1 pair flip flops
1 black light jacket/hoodie for cold classrooms (black goes with everything)
2 belts, 1 black, 1 brown
bout 10 pairs of socks black/brown/white
5 ties
That should about cover you!

You should pack enough clothes to comfortably have enough to last until you are able to do your laundry. You see, your schedule will be relatively busy, and you will find yourself unable to do laundry every day. You should also bring clothes for each season, and for different extremes of warm and cold, because even in summertime/winter time, you can sometimes find unusual temperatures. Your clothing should be comfortable enough to wear to class without weighing down on you, or making you too hot or too cold.

it depends on how far away you are going. i went to a college that was close enough for me to go home and get new clothes for each season. if you are going far away bring a lot of shirts, a week's worth of pants. you won't need shorts for that much longer so only bring probably 3 or 4 pairs of them. bring some jackets or hoodies too.

First you need to decide how often you plan on doing laundry. Every 7 days? Once a month? Have an outfit for each day and a spare or two based on laundry day.

i'd say...at least 10-15 shirts, 5-8 pairs of pants, and 3 pairs of shorts.
...hopefully that will help you stay out of doing laundry too often.
