Good question because I fuss about this all the time. Too much government is things like seatbelt laws. In my state they just passed a law requiring adults in the backseat to also wear seatbelts. What is next, helmets?

One of the number one misconceptions about democrats is that we are for big government. This could not be farther from the truth. We are extremely against the government sticking its nose in our civil liberties. We are the ones who gripe about things like being required to have car insurance in order to get your drivers license.

The only area that I am pro-government involves regulation of corporations. Every single time something is deregulated, congress always promises us that it will lower the cost. And every single time the opposite occurs. ie, telephone, cable, energy, etc... I believe in the free market but in these circumstances, we need regulation to control these monopolies.

The people who get regulated ALWAYS complain when they get it. And there's always someone complaining that X should be regulated. It's a balancing act.
