Problems with coastal wind damage on cypresses. Should I cut deadwood or leave it to protect live material?

Dead wood is just potential missile material during the next storm. Cut it off. It does nothing to protect anything. Cypress trees can take full sun.

I agree with ZZ. Cut the deadwood off. It is serving no purpose.
