Ive been working at this small organization as a program assistant for about 8 months now and I have a horrible boss. She gets upset if I have doctors appts (even though I have earned sick leave), she gossips about people all the time and to make it worse. Last month, my car was broken into the morning of a big conference and she said that it was unprofessional of me to be 1 hr late for the conference because I was attending to my car. She also mentioned that my job was DISPENSIBLE! A few days later I over heard her talking to another co-worker about my car in her office. I am currently looking for another job but, what should I do in the mean time? Quit, suck it up, or just go ahead and give notice?

sounds like my job except i work for my aunt... add family into the mix and then try it. not fun.
i personally am looking for a new job. why should i have to be so stressed out at work? At least your job will let you give two weeks notice... my aunt wants six weeks notice.
read the book and go see the movie "the devil wears prada" and start calling your boss Miranda. then find a new job. life is too short to live it in constant stress with nasty people all the time.
I have woked for my aunt for a year. i didn't get new years day off and i have had one sick day the entire time. and she didn't even let me take off. i was puking my guts up and she made me work. Don't even get me started on the car problems issue....
I totally feel your pain. But you can get out... DO IT! Give notice and find a job where you love the people and the work!

that is a shame - you would possibly want to be residing a nightmare.. Its a tragic actuality though - bosses like this can take great factor about you in case you prepare any signal of weak spot (niceness) .. placed up your Bosses e-mail deal with on Yahoo! solutions .. he receives the hint to stop ! even as he receives bombarded with emails..Have a communicate which includes your Union rep/or someone who has labored contained in the corporation the longest and make certain you're totally conscious of your artwork rights.and so on.. Failing that play him at his own pastime.. commence telling those who he's making irrelevant feedback to you - and his hands have all started wondering..take a deep breath and pass for it..Make a noisy shriek contained in the course of the place of work once you're next to him and commence the tears....save the activities properly documented and get a delightful witness or 2 to diminish back you up.. feels like you should pass on the ill and take him to a tribrunial - watch this you'd be made an provide you cant refuse.. Failing that get your friends at the same time and baseball bat him..

I would wait until you find another job before quitting. That's just how I am though. If you really can't stand it and don't need the reference, I would start being a jerk back. Come in late everyday, take a two hour lunch, leave early, surf the internet. At least if she fires you, you can get unemployment.

I had a similar problem...TWICE! I was with a company for almost 10 years when they switched Managers on us and moved ours to a different store. The new one was a large Mexican Lady that loved to push her weight around. Within 3 months she had either fired or caused all but a few of us to quit. She brought in almost her entire family to replace them. She cut some peoples hours to give more to her kids, She switched schedules so her daughters could work during the day even though the person who was already working the scedule had done so for years.

I finally left after writing a 3 page complaint to the coorporate office and having everyone (including the ones who quit) sign it. Nothing ever really came of it. I had found out she had switched numbers in the report so a 25.00 shortage her son-in-law had showed up on my shift because I worked after him. I even had the proof because the computer keeps track if anyone changes the numbers in it. They didn't seem to care. My theory is she used the fact that she was Mexican to claim we were doing it out of discrimination! The company didn't want to deal with that.

I finally left...Walked out...Just before she was scheduled to leave to go on vacation. I figured that was the best time to mess up her plans since she would have to replace me or schedule people for overtime (most of her family worked a full 40 hours and the company hated overtime). The one person that was left that had worked there since before she took over gave their 2 week notice the day she found out I left. She told me that as soon as I left the boss started treating several other "white" employees like crap and she didn't want to be the next in line.

Sad fact is she had 2 daughters that she moved up quickly to assistant Mngrs. I actually got along with them better. But she would do things and give her daughter credit for it or even some of the things I had done I found out she told the corporate office it was her daughter that did it. I don't know if her daughter ever got to manage her own store or not but I was afraid her Mom had set her up for failure. She never allowed her daughter to learn from any mistakes. She would fix them or blame them on someone else.

I could write a book on the 1 year I spent with her as a boss! But in the end I tried everything I could to go through the proper channels of upper Management and it didn't do much good other than if someone else ever complains they will have record of past problems. Do you have someone above her you could complain to? I would look elsewhere for work and try and find somewhere else before you quit. I was lucky in that my old boss still worked for the company so when I applied elsewhere I gave her as a reference rather than the new boss.

Maybe your boss doesn't like the way you do some things and rather that help you improve she just deals with it or is looking to replace you. If it is revenge you want be the model employee she is looking for. Then leave her hanging when you find the new job and be sure to tell her the real reason why you left. Perhaps you can save the next employee she replaces you with from some of the same treatment.

I cant stand people and thier ego trips, use her love of gossip against her to make her look stupid infront of the company, or take the high road and confront her about your problem with her managerial skills, either way you wanna get out of satan's dominion
