By some bug bombs that get rid of the fleas. Bomb the apartment once a week for at least a month. To bomb your apartment, close up the apartment up completely. Turn off the a/c and then open all closets, and cabinets. Set off bomb and go out for a few hours (however long the can says) The longer the better. When you come home, open up the apartment, sweep the floors really well. Wipe down all countertops. If in a week you still have fleas, bomb the apartment again. Eventually you will get rid of the fleas. If you have cat or dog you will need to bathe them also.

Contact the owner, they are responsible for doing a flea bomb and then have the carpet steam cleaned professionally. They should also put you up (all expenses paid) while this is being done. Remove any living thing from the apartment before the flea bomb and take your valuables too. If they give you any garbage, tell them you are contacting the health department, and then do it. No owner is to turn an apartment over to a new tenant without first doing the basics, especially if the previous tenant had a pet. If they would have had the carpet steam cleaned, the pest problem would not exist.

If you are renting, the landlord must rid the property of fleas. It must be done by a professional exterminator.
If you own it, then likewise you need to employ a professonial. You may be able to get the previous owner to pay for it, since it was an undisclosed problem. Depending on the state you live in, contact the attorney that did your closing, if your state does that.

You could get a commercial flea bomb type product and follow the directions carefully. It involves closing the doors and windows, setting it off, and leaving for a couple of hours. You can vacuum, then use the product again in a week to catch any eggs that have hatched. And vacuum some more. That ought to do it. But do follow the directions on the product and do not breathe any of it yourself.

Morton Salt- Sprinkle salt on carpets, let sit for at least three hours or longer, and vacuum thoroughly. This worked great for me.

Dawn Dish-washing Liquid- to kill fleas in carpeting pour 1 table spoon of Dawn into 16 oz spray bottle, fill rest of bottle with water and spray the carpets, upholstery and floors. the soap dries up the insects killing them almost instantly. after 15 min. wipe floors with damp cloth ( or mop) and vacuum the carpets.

Lysol- Spray the carpet and upholstery with Lysol disinfectant spray. the antiseptic kills fleas. repeat the following day to kill any newly hatched eggs.

All these methods work, I have used them all at different times. I personally like the salt method best. I looked for remedies that would not harm children when my daughter was very young, and I continue to use them today. I hope this helps you.

Get a bug bomb from the garden department in home depot. They work pretty well and get into all of the crevices where fleas hide.

I've found that sitting on the floor and lifting my leg, scratching with my toes works best. Sometimes I need to twist into akward positions to bite at them tho....
