On his contract it states"any monies over & above will be written up & added to the org. contract." He never did so.He never wroteup anything else stated he needed more $.Before he finish I had a meeting with him saying we can only pay what's according to his contract and before he left he said he understood. He has finished the work.I told him I will not pay any more. We are not talking about a couple $,it's more in the thousands.What should I do?

If the work is done, do NOT pay him. In fact, advise him you are reporting him to the BBB for bad business practices and the local police for extortion. If he doesn't back off then wait and see what he does.

In the interim, take that contract to a free legal aid clinic and have them advise you as to its legality and where you stand. Based on what you have said, you're not liable for his errors and yet I have not seen it obviously.

DO NOT cave in to extortion!

Check his work very good, he has to do the job correctly. Do not give him any more money, he put his price in a contract and if he did it wrong it is his fault not yours. Wait awhile and then check and see if there is a lean on your home, that is how some contracters try to get their money.Take him to small claims if there is.

Talk to a lawyer and make sure that you understand the contract. Did you make any changes to your original plan? I think that would make a difference.

I would say you are lucky he finished everything i wouldnt have,if something is not on his contract then he didnt have to do it.
