the 400 acres is landlocked by a cattle ranch..taxes have been paid each and every year by us...what are our rights to cross the ranch to get to our land...that we hold origonal papers from the president to.....???

Contact the county auditor and the register of deeds in what ever county the land is in. You most certainly deserve right of access. I live in North Dakota. I know that South Dakota also understands "right of access" to real property.

Yeah, I would think you'd have an easement for access but I don't know about land law in SD. Some easements exist because folks just continued to go across the land to get to their property. If you haven't exercised access for a time, without an easement in the deed, things might get a little sticky. Who, if any, have used the land in the recent past?

Easement HAS to be allowed....sue for it.
