Birds mate, its called treading. Usually, the male gets on the females back. Its hard to see what they do, he flutters about for a couple of seconds, and then he jumps off. He has however put some sperm inside her. The sperm goes to the ova and they start developing.
The act doesn't take long or seem very exciting, but they obviously like it, because you get the same kind of behaviour as we see among humans: infidelity, homosexuality, even rape.
We had a pair of lesbian ducks once.
Birds rarely mate for life, a few return to old partners after the winter, but most don't. It has been found (presumably by DNA testing) that its quite common for some of the young in a nest not to be the offspring of the mother's partner.

Birds do mate and the eggs are fertilized inside of the females body. Birds do not have the same reproductive organs as humans. Birds have matching external sex organs called Cloacas (an opening under the tail which is used for mating and going to the bathroom). Their Cloacas must touch and contact needs to be sustained for as long as possible to ensure the female gets the sperm. The tail of the female is raised and she clutches the perch with all of her strength. As the male bring his body to hers their tails cross and the female's gets pushed one side or the other while the male's ends up under the female or just below her. The male must flap his wings as though he were hovering to keep the pair together. The process only takes a few seconds.

birds do mate; otherwise there would be no baby birds, although fish do it differently. My friend has two parakeets who want to mate but the male is too clumsy, he keeps falling off. It's hard to get past that tail. By the way, they do masturbate, I'm not kidding! They seemed to be doing so and the vet said yes they do. I don't know if the females do too, though, heh heh that would be difficult.

The eggs are fertilized using sperm. I don't think male birds have an exact external organ, but they can deposit sperm into the female through mating.

Of course they have a reproductive system very much like the one in humans , the thing is they have it sort of internal ... that´s why it´s called mating , if their organs were external it would be called copulation...

Of course they mate, how would birds not get extinct if they if they did not mate?? If you don't want them to mate, just put them in differnt cages. Mating is part of life for everyone!!
