1. when buying flaps, check the rubber sides for possible warping. this may defeat its sealing purpose.
2. try returning the toilet bowl lever properly, if it has one.
3. check for obstructions between the hole and the flap. a small object/s may have found its way and stucked preventing the seal to work.
4. calcium or other mineral in water may have build up in the sealed area.
5. clean toilet water holder regularly. :-) and check for missing parts that may be holding the flap.

regards.

If you use in tank toilet cleaners (the drop in pucks), the chemicals in them can and will damage the rubber components in the toilet tank, most noticeable is the flapper valve. It will probably expand the rubber and make it warp. Buy a new valve and install and don't use the in tank cleaners for longer life. And don't buy the cheapest flapper you can find, pick a mid priced one.

the flap could be warped causing water to seep down there, just buy another flap there only a couple of bucks

I had an annoying bathroom flap on a similar time as i exchange into residing in an house. it may be useful to you to easily replace it. $3 for a clean bathroom flapper, 2min to alter it - $seventy 5 water invoice. i could shop a spare, merely in case!

Have you checked for "calcium" build up around the drain?
Wouldn't take much.
If the flap is not seating, It could be that.

Flapper valves don't last forever, but it SHOULD last more than a year.

Just change it. They are cheap!

If it's good for another year, it's one less thing to give you a headache
