Ok ya'll, I got a Dell Inspiron B130 for college and I'm afraid that it won't have all the media capabilities that I need....and I need a lot! It's called a Basic Entry Level Notebook, does that mean it isn't worth a crap? I just need to know what to expect from this computer. Is it good enough for college or should I upgrade? Someone who knows about this thing please help me cause I know absolutely nothing about it! Thanks ya'll!!!!!

well that kind of depends on how the system is set up. Looking over the Dell website even the very basic model of the B130 seems to have the power for most media needs. You probably cannot make good quality DVD's from an analog signal but with the addition of software and external devices you should be happy.

As long as you have a wordprocessor and internet access, you will be fine for college. An entry level notebook just means that it may not be as fast or have as many features as the more expensive versions, but it will still get the job done and unless you're an expert and need a computer for a specific purpose, such as photo editing or something, you won't notice the difference. Even if you DO need it for multimedia such as video and photo editing, your laptop will do just fine. Just don't run a bunch of programs all at once, and if you have to, you can upgrade your RAM (the more ram you have, the more programs and large files you can run at once) for 50 to 100 dollars and it's really easy to put in. If you have any more questions, just ask! And btw, I have a Dell laptop and it's entry level with upgraded ram. I design websites and do photoediting and I've NEVER had a problem with it.

the B130 is an entry level machine that should work. Not necessarily as fast as some of the others and not much you can upgrade later on. Its functional but just make sure the wireless card works. I have had two of those with trouble.

The Dell B-series is a basic notebook
The bargain-bin Dell Inspiron B-series laptops are sufficient for basic tasks such as e-mail, Web surfing, and word processing.

You should get the Dell 640m series

yeah, "entry level" does tend to mean "crap"..... i'd suggest talking to a nerdy neighbour or family member to help you with what you need. tell them what you'll be doing with the computer and they should be able to give you ranges in which the computer's specifications should be
