I just don't get it. The so-called "reality shows" aren't realistic at all. If anything, they're very UNREALISTIC. And haven't you noticed that the "real people" who are chosen to participate on these shows usually look like Barbie and Ken? How unrealistic is that?

They just show that people are out of imagination! I hate them, too . Why don't they just put on something called "Are you a Moron?"
These shows are the most UNREALISTIC things you can find on TV.

You're right, reality shows aren't realistic. However, I think that's the draw of them. You take everday people (granted, most do look very nice) and put them in highly dramatized situations and see what happens. The exec's who do the hiring for these shows aren't stupid. They hire the best people for the job; the prettiest, the most outlandish, in essence, the ones that will make the most drama and get them the highest ratings. That said, it's still fun every now and then to sit back and watch this drama unfold.

Come on people reality shows are real *wink nudge* like take Fear Factor for example...every one has done something close to that show...hell every Saturday night I hang up side down from a bungee cord and eat cow intestines

*Note: if you didn't pick up on the sarcasm in the above comment...go play in 5 o'clock traffic*

You want a real "Fear Factor" or "Survivor" have a camera guy fallow an American soldier in Iraq for a day...then I think people will realize what's real and important instead of this pre-Madonna America Idol, Survivor B.S.

The appeal of the reality shows is simple: it helps people drowned out the problems of their own lives by looking at the troubles someone else is having. Reality shows show people things they would never do or things they only dream of. It is only appealing because it isn't their life. That goes with the saying the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Some of the "reality" shows are just plain awful and you are right, the "non-actors" look like actors. I like Survivor. They don't always choose the best looking people and some of it is still real. It isn't as good as it used to be. In the earlier seasons I had favorites that I was cheering for but not anymore.

I detest reality shows. This is why we have PAID ACTORS!!! Leave the entertaining to the professionals and let's get these "real people" off the air!!!!! *puhleez* I do like Dancing With The Stars but again, they are professional entertainers doing something different out of their chosen field. These people are trained to entertain us...let them do their jobs!!

I know reality shows aren't really all that real, but they are fun to watch. you have to admit watching the girls fight on flavor of love, drunking brawls on the real world, and b list celebrities sweat by joging half a mile is kinda funny. the world is depressing as it is with the war on terror and gas prices sky high, if i want to watch whitney houston coked out singing in a hotel, i pay for it right.

The appeal is they are somewhat entertaining. It is a novelty right now. As more "reality" shows come on the air we will get sick of them too and move on to something else.
Too many singing and dancing shows on now. I am already sick of them! Except American Idol...

The same appeal as the Freak Shows of the 1920-30s

You see someone doing something totally stupid, then are happy that it was not you

Well, for some it's nice to see that despite the fact that they all look like plastic blow up dolls, all those looks can't buy them common sense. Ever stopped to look at a car wreck? Same difference.
