Skinny is when you're underweight/thin by choice (let's say anorexia for example) and thin, like me, is when it's natural and you don't look like a stick. Just really thin in a good way, not an unhealthy way. Why can't people say it right? Skinny is unhealthy but thin isn't. What's so hard about that??? Not trying to be rude, just curious... and none of those "because people are stupid" type of answers please- thanks! :)

Well, excuse me, but anyone with common knowledge will know that skinny is definately NOT the same as thin. I can say that I'm very thin, but that's because of my origins. Skinny is when it's not healthy. Every doctor has said that to me... geez!

The above details were for Melanie and paintgirl and others who said similar things like them... thank you to the others for being open-minded and seeing my point!

You have a good point and sometimes people have different ideas about what is a healthy weight. In my book" skinny" is ribs showing and a really bony appearance, while" thin" is good muscle tone and a generally healthy look about the face.I am not thin but there is a slight difference between skinny and thin. But in general they do tend to mean the same thing, its all in how you use the words.

Actually skinny and thin mean the same thing. It's a matter of size. When you say that someone is fat or overweight, it doesn't matter if they became that way because of lack of self-esteem or perhaps a glandular issue. They're still of a big size. Maybe you need to try and be not quite so sensitive. If you look good and are healthy, what do you care whether people say you're skinny or thin?

You are making your own definitions for these two words and expecting people to know them. Look up the words in the dictionary and you will see they say almost the same thing. It's a matter of semantics. There are no such things as the definitions you mentioned above, it just happens to be the way YOU think of those words. I use them both the same in a sentence, I see no difference.

They are all just words: skinny, thin, slender, etc. (and Anorexia is not a choice-it's an illness.) What makes you right and everyone else wrong--just because they don't agree with you?

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but really.......what is your point?

I've always thought that skinny was defined as being extremely thin, ie skin and bones, where as thin is just defined as being very slim. HTH.
