I recently found a few vintage appliques. Mostly florals embroidered on muslin. I want to attach one to a shirt, but I'm not sure how to go about it--all the sew on appliques I've seen are already trimmed.

There are a couple of ways to do this. One way is to use a tiny zigzag around the edges of the applique. The other way is to use fabric glue and glue it on. Either way will work. If you want to cut away the muslin you can use a product that you apply to the unwanted areas and when it dries iron it with a dry iron and the affected areas will dry up and flake away. When you trim, use very small, sharp scissors and just go very carefully around the edges. Have fun!
