1 - 2x < 2(6 - x)
Distribute the right side.
1 - 2x < 12 - 2x
Add 2x to both sides.
1 < 12.

This statement has no variables. Because the statement is true, that means "x" can be any real number. (If the statement was false, your inequality would have no solutions for "x.")

I'm going to write down the steps you need for this:
1) 1-2x<12-2x (opne your parenthesis)
2) Bring the x's to one side and the whole numbers to the other:
(1-12)<(-2x-(-2x))
Keep in mind that the sign of each variable/number changes
sign when you switch sides.
3) Therefore you get -11<0
4) The question cannot be solved
5) Check your question, or the answer is that there are no real answers.

The only difference between a "normal" equation and an inequality in BASIC arithmetic is that you have to change the sign if you multiply or divide by a negative, which is not necessary here.

So, simplify both sides.

1-2x < 12 - 2x

Consolidate like so:

-2x - (-2x) < 12 -1

-2x + 2x < 12 -1
Simplify

0 < 13

Now that is beautiful. Is there a second equation?

1-2x < 2(6-x)

Remember PEMDAS. Parentheses first. Therefore

1-2x < 12 - 2x

Next, get x to one side.

1-2x < 12 - 2x
+2x +2x

1 < 12

True for all x since 1<12.

1 - 2x < 2(6 - x)
1 - 2x < 12 - 2x
1 < 12

So this is always true.

Just to let you know, when you add 2x to both sides, the 2x cancels out.

1-2x<2(6-x)
1-2x<12-2x
1-2x+2x<12
1<12
So the answer is er.... yeah, correct, yer right, 1 is less than 12.

Profound or wha?

Parentheses first, then multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction.

If you divide across a greater than or less than sign, the sign flips to the opposite direction. Other than that, you solve it the same as if it were an equals sign.

since the 2x's cancel out, there is no solution to the inequation
