I have cramps, and I don't know if I should ignore them or go to the hospital. I would hate to make my husband miss work for a false alarm. Can labor feel like this or should I wait? What does labor feel like?

Unless the contractions are close together and almost unbearable you are probably having Braxton hicks contractions it's a form of cramping that is almost like false labor, that said alot of women can be 1 or 2 cm dialated and holding for weeks, days, hours or minutes it depends on things like how many times youve been pregnant and such, my advice would be to call your ob or your hospitals maternity ward tell them your symptoms and go from there. I would also keep a time log of every cramp and a 1-10 scale of the pain, but when in doubt worry more about getting to the hospital and less about his job his boss will understand & if he doesn't and should god forbid be fired you can sue him.Good luck & congrats on the baby! I wish you both wellness & happiness

You will have what is called Braxton-Hicks contractions to prepare you for the birth of your baby. These "cramps"are normal and can go on for several days to months before your actually are ready to give birth.
When your real labor starts, you will start having contractions or "cramps" which can be timed like clockwork. When you time them, they go from say 10 minutes apart and then move closer together and go down to 5 minutes apart then get closer togther to like say 3 minutes apart. These pains are intense and cannot be mistaken for anything else except labor, unless you are one of the lucky ones and pop your baby out like a professional baby birther which almost never happens.
I would only go to the hospital when your labor pains are regular and can be timed exactly every 4-5 minutes apart or when your doctor tells you to go which is usually every 2-3 minutes apart for a 1st time mother. Even then, the birth of your baby can be hours away. Good luck. and oh yah, Congratulations!!!!!

It could be just braxton hicks contractions. Don't panic. The three signs a doctor tells you to watch out for is contractions coming regularly, ex. pain pain pain stop then it starts back again and stops. If your water breaks, or if you start seeing blood. Even if that is the case don't worry, I did my labor at home. Yes all of it. I went to the hospital and gave the dr. enough time to barely get in scrubs and had her. Try walking, don't do strenuous exercises or moving. If you can't sit, lay, or walk with out feeling these pains, try to get to the hospital for them to check you. If you are going in to labor call your husband then. Labor pains can be in your abdomen or back. Which is where most of my labor was. Another thing, if you are running back and forth from the bathroom and cant seem to stop, you are in need of a nurse. Good luck congrats. and have fun. its a blast and goes by way too fast.

first time mom? cause odds are you will be in labor quite a while! If your cramps are so bad you can't drive, then he should stay home and take you to the doc's because false labor isn't that painful! If you have some belly cramps like a period, then let him go to work, he can always come back home if tis the real thing. Start timing the "cramps", call the doc.

When they feel unbearable go to the hospital. Contractions are timed. If it is just little cramps it is probably because of the size of your belly and your muscles pulling. I would say give it an hour, if they feel worse then call the doctor or call 911, even if it is a false alarm.

Call your doc and see what they think. It could be the beginning stages of your labor. But labor can take time. Sometimes you can stay dialated for days.

Keep track of how bad your cramping is. See if you get strong lower back pain. At the signs of your first contractions, call your hubby home from work.

PS...Is your bag packed. Get ready!!! Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly and God Bless your new baby when he/she arrives......

Cramps? Sounds serious. Call your doctor. Don't worry about false alarms. Most first time mothers have at least two. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck.

Congratulations to you and your husband. The only advice I can give is to call the dr. You can never be too concerned. The may tell you to go to the hospital, but they will have you waiting aroud forever. Probably just a case of Braxton Hick. Again Congrats!~!!!!!!

It's probably just a false alarm,if they start hurting real bad and the pain starts coming more consistent then go to the doctor. Start timing the contractions.

Are your cramps staying there, or are they going away? If they are staying there and not going away and if they are really bad you should call your Dr. If they are going away wait until you start having contractions every 3-4 minutes then go to the Hospital.
